It is necessary. Therefore, one should not be separated from these three ways of observing the key points of the door. Second, the key points of the place are two: the outer space and the inner space. In the *Transcending Argumentation*, it says: Space is outer and inner; the outer is holding onto the cloudless sky, the inner is the lamp. And in the *Burning Lamp*, it says: By placing awareness in the outer space, self-knowing awareness is purified and appears in its own place. And in the *Self-Arisen Awareness*, it says: Space is the home of the naturally luminous. And in the *After the Past*, it says: The key point of the place is the sky free from conditions. Therefore, the outer space is the sky free from conditions, and the inner space is the lamp of completely pure space. That is, because from the empty sky, empty awareness arises, therefore, by placing the key point of the place in space, wisdom will naturally appear. Third, the key points of the wind are three: holding, shooting, and slowly relying. In the *Transcending Argumentation*, it says: The wind should be slowed down in every way, because it comes from intense shooting. And in the *After the Past*, it says: The key point of the wind is to learn to be very slow. Therefore, first hold it slowly, then shoot it like an arrow to a distant place, and then let the wind naturally become very slow. The key point of awareness is: the *lugu gyü* (ལུ་གུ་རྒྱུད, देवनागरी, , meaning ) should be held as if imprisoned; from the absence of letters, the essence arises like the *lugu gyü*, flickering, swaying, and flowing. And in the *Self-Arisen*, it says: The luminous body with five wisdoms is very clear in the *lugu gyü*. That is, going and coming, and moving and flickering. And in the *Lion's Perfect Power*, it says: That thing of self-appearing awareness exists in the wisdom *lugu gyü*. And in the *After the Past*, it says: Hold the *lugu gyü* awareness as if imprisoned. Therefore, without being separated from these three key points, look at the awareness *lugu gyü*. First, shorten the sessions and increase the number, then gradually lengthen the duration, and then practice at special times of day and night. One will become proficient in two and a half months. Having practiced in this way, third, the way the four appearances arise are four: the appearance of the manifestation of the nature of reality, the appearance of the increase of experience, the appearance of awareness reaching its limit, and the appearance of the exhaustion of the nature of reality. That is, in the *After the Past*, it says: The appearance of the manifestation of the nature of reality destroys the view of grasping with conceptual thought.

Through the increase of confused appearances, the wisdom of the bardo is manifested. Through the appearance of perfected awareness, the Sambhogakaya is recognized. Through the appearance of the exhaustion of dharmata, the result of Atiyoga's freedom from effort is attained. Thus, when the ground, path, and fruition are perfected, nirvana is not to be sought elsewhere. So it is said. First, the appearance of the direct experience of dharmata is: the lama instructs with three words: "Keep the body in this posture, speak in this way, and direct the mind to this." When the student practices in this way, without relying on the imputation of conceptual thought and words, in the empty space of the sky, the appearance of the awareness of dharmata is directly seen, without being obscured by any conceptual thought. This is called the appearance of the direct experience of dharmata. In the "Refutation of Extremes," it says: "The appearance of the direct experience of dharmata is when the sense consciousnesses definitely emerge from the doors and are clear in the cloudless, clear sky." Thus, by combining the three key points and practicing, in one's own brow, there will appear what is called the lamp of the completely pure expanse, like a rainbow or like the colors of a peacock's tail. Within that, there will appear what is called the lamp of the empty bindu, like the ripples in the water when a stone is thrown into a calm lake, or like the spokes of a wheel. Within that, there will appear bindus the size of mustard seeds or peas. Within that, there will appear what is called the vajra chain of awareness, as fine as knots tied in a horse's tail, or like pearls strung on a thread, or like an iron chain, or like a flower net moved by the wind, and so on. All of these will appear as two-linked or three-linked, and so on. This is one's own vajra chain of awareness, the single bindu. Moreover, since the expanse and awareness are inseparable, they abide like the sun and its rays. Furthermore, light is the symbol of the expanse, the bindu is the symbol of wisdom, and the vajra chain is the symbol of the awareness body. All of these abide in the center of the citta of the natural state, and the clear essence of the path's sense consciousnesses directly appears in the eye. In the "Refutation of Extremes," it says: "The appearance of the direct experience of dharmata is when the sense consciousnesses definitely emerge from the doors and are clear in the cloudless, clear sky." Therefore, this destroys the view of clinging to conceptual thought, as well as the view of conceptual thought such as wisdom fabricated by words and mind. In the "Beyond After," it says: "Through the appearance of the direct experience of dharmata, conceptual thought"
