The Seeing as Self-Liberation: Instructions for the Bardo of Dharmata. The Seeing as Self-Liberation: Instructions for the Bardo of Dharmata. From the Profound Dharma of Peaceful and Wrathful Deities, the Self-Liberation of Intentions, the fifth general topic from the instructions on the Six Bardos of the Completion Stage, called "The Seeing as Self-Liberation: Instructions for the Bardo of Dharmata." The fifth general topic, from the Instructions for the Bardo of Dharmata: The key instruction is to trust your own appearances, like a mother placing a child in her lap. The teaching on seeing as self-liberation is: The instructions for the Bardo of Birth, the Self-Liberation of the Ground of All, and the instructions for the Bardo of Meditation, the Self-Liberation of Awareness, and so on, are all about cutting through to the essential nature of emptiness, the primordially pure state, and practicing it. This is known as the category of the Ground Trekchö. Now, by introducing and familiarizing ourselves with the awareness of the direct experience of dharmata, we will now establish and liberate the appearances of the Bardo of Dharmata. This is known as the instructions for the path of Tögal. This also has four points: First, grasping the key points of body, speech, and mind; second, relying on the three key points to bring direct experience into one's own state; third, showing how the four visions arise through practice; and fourth, the concluding supportive instructions. First, grasping the key points has three aspects: the key point of the body, the key point of the speech, and the key point of the mind. First, grasping the key point of the body also has three aspects: the posture of the Nirmanakaya, like a seated sage; the posture of the Sambhogakaya, like a reclining elephant; and the posture of the Dharmakaya, like a lion in a dog-like position. From the *Uttaratantra*: The posture of the Dharmakaya, like a lion, frees one from all fear of confusion, and one sees with the vajra eye. The posture of the Sambhogakaya is based on the reclining elephant, enjoying all dharmata, and one sees with the lotus eye. The posture of the Nirmanakaya is based on the seated sage, all dharmata self-emanating, and one sees with the Dharma eye. So it says. From the *String of Pearls*: The key point of the body is threefold: to remain in the manner of a lion, an elephant, and like a sage. So it says. Therefore, the students should not be more than seven, and at a time when the sky is clear and there is no hail, lead the students to a secluded place, first the posture of the Dharmakaya.

The posture is like a lion-dog stance: the body is in a dog-like posture, both soles of the feet are placed on the ground, the hands hold the vajra fists, the roots of the little toes are pressed into the ground, the upper body is stretched out like a lion, leaving a gap, the strength is concentrated in the waist, and the senses are focused on the object. The second is the Sambhogakaya posture, like a reclining elephant: the body lies face down like an elephant, the knees and chest are close together, the toes are extended outwards, both elbows are placed on the ground, and the waist is slightly raised. The third is the Nirmanakaya posture, like a sage squatting: the body is squatting, both ankles are together, the soles of the feet are placed on the ground, the body is straightened, both knees are close to the chest, the hands are crossed and embrace the knees, and the spine is straightened. Thus, by focusing on the three key points of the body, the inherent awareness and wisdom in the body become manifest through focusing on the key points, just as a snake has legs but they are not obvious unless it is coiled. Secondly, there are three key points of speech: speech should be learned, abide, and be stable. First, learning: do not speak more than three or four times a day, and gradually reduce speech. Second, abiding: do not mix with the speech of others, and cut it off with a vow of silence. Third, stability: do not say anything, and be stable like a mute. Third, the key point of the mind: awareness should not be distracted elsewhere, and should not be separated from the focused object. Secondly, relying on the three key points, there are three ways to directly bring manifestation into oneself: the key point of the door, the key point of the object, and the key point of the wind. First, the key point of the door is the eyes: In the Ornament of Clear Realization, it says: The door is viewed with the eyes of the three bodies. In the Letterless Scripture, it says: The eyes look into the realm of space. In the Garland of Pearls, it says: The door is that which does not move. In the Past and Future Scripture, it says: The key point of the door is to look in reverse, downwards, and sideways. Therefore, there are three aspects to this: The way of seeing of the Dharmakaya is to look upwards and backwards, which is necessary to stop the appearance of delusion at once. The way of seeing of the Sambhogakaya is to look sideways, which is necessary to see the appearance of pure wisdom. The way of seeing of the Nirmanakaya is to look downwards in a lowered manner, which is necessary to gain control over the wind and mind.
