Is a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship endowed with the fruit of stream-entry? Yes. Has not a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship transcended the fruit of stream-entry? Yes. If indeed a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship has transcended the fruit of stream-entry, then surely it should not be said: "A person practicing for the realization of Arahantship is endowed with the fruit of stream-entry." A person practicing for the realization of Arahantship has transcended the fruit of stream-entry, is he endowed with it? Yes. A person practicing for the realization of Arahantship has transcended the path of stream-entry, has transcended self-view, doubt, adherence to rites and rituals, lust leading to lower realms, hatred leading to lower realms, delusion leading to lower realms, is he endowed with them? It should not be said thus... Is a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship endowed with the fruit of once-returning? Yes. Has not a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship transcended the fruit of once-returning? Yes. If indeed a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship has transcended the fruit of once-returning, then surely it should not be said: "A person practicing for the realization of Arahantship is endowed with the fruit of once-returning." A person practicing for the realization of Arahantship has transcended the fruit of once-returning, is he endowed with it? Yes. A person practicing for the realization of Arahantship has transcended the path of once-returning, has transcended gross sensual desire, gross ill-will, is he endowed with them? It should not be said thus... Is a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship endowed with the fruit of non-returning? Yes. Has not a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship transcended the fruit of non-returning? Yes. Yes. If a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship has gone beyond the fruit of Non-returning, then surely it should not be said – "a person practicing for the realization of Arahantship is endowed with the fruit of Non-returning." A person practicing for the realization of Arahantship has gone beyond the fruit of Non-returning, is he then endowed with it? Yes. A person practicing for the realization of Arahantship has gone beyond the path of Non-returning, has gone beyond latent sensual desire, has gone beyond latent ill-will, is he then endowed with it? It should not be said thus... (and so on)... 409. Is a person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning endowed with the fruit of Stream-entry? Yes. Has not a person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning gone beyond the fruit of Stream-entry? Yes. If a person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning has gone beyond the fruit of Stream-entry, then surely it should not be said – "a person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning is endowed with the fruit of Stream-entry." A person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning has gone beyond the fruit of Stream-entry, is he then endowed with it? Yes. A person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning has gone beyond the path of Stream-entry, has gone beyond personality view... (and so on)... delusion leading to a lower realm, is he then endowed with it? It should not be said thus... (and so on)... Is a person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning endowed with the fruit of Once-returning? Yes. Has not a person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning gone beyond the fruit of Once-returning? Yes. If a person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning has gone beyond the fruit of Once-returning, then surely it should not be said – "a person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning is endowed with the fruit of Once-returning." A person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning has gone beyond the fruit of Once-returning, is he then endowed with it? Yes. A person practicing for the realization of the fruit of Non-returning has gone beyond the path of Once-returning, o, having overcome gross sensual desire, gross ill-will, is he endowed with them? It should not be said thus…pe…. 410. A person entered upon the realization of the once-returner fruit, is he endowed with the stream-enterer fruit? Yes. Has not a person entered upon the realization of the once-returner fruit, overcome the stream-enterer fruit? Yes. If a person entered upon the realization of the once-returner fruit, has overcome the stream-enterer fruit, then indeed, it should not be said – “a person entered upon the realization of the once-returner fruit, is endowed with the stream-enterer fruit.” A person entered upon the realization of the once-returner fruit, has overcome the stream-enterer fruit, is he endowed with it? Yes. A person entered upon the realization of the once-returner fruit, has overcome the stream-enterer path, self-view…pe… delusion leading to states of woe, is he endowed with them? It should not be said thus…pe…. 411. Should it not be said – “a person entered upon the realization of arahantship, is endowed with three fruits”? Yes. Have not three fruits been attained by a person entered upon the realization of arahantship, and is he not fallen away from them? Yes. If three fruits have been attained by a person entered upon the realization of arahantship, and he is not fallen away from them, then indeed, it should be said – “a person entered upon the realization of arahantship, is endowed with three fruits.” Should it not be said – “a person entered upon the realization of the non-returner fruit, is endowed with two fruits”? Yes. Have not two fruits been attained by a person entered upon the realization of the non-returner fruit, and is he not fallen away from them? Yes. If two fruits have been attained by a person entered upon the realization of the non-returner fruit, and he is not fallen away from them, then indeed, it should be said – “a person entered upon the realization of the non-returner fruit, is endowed with two fruits.” Should it not be said – “the realization of the once-returner fruit Is the person who has entered the stream endowed with the fruit of stream-entry? Yes. Has not the person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of once-returning attained the fruit of stream-entry, and is not deprived of it? Yes. If the person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of once-returning has attained the fruit of stream-entry and is not deprived of it, then indeed it should be said: "The person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of once-returning is endowed with the fruit of stream-entry." 412. Has the person who has entered upon the realization of Arahantship attained three fruits, and is not deprived of them? Is the person who has entered upon the realization of Arahantship endowed with three fruits? Yes. Has the person who has entered upon the realization of Arahantship attained four paths, and is not deprived of them? Is the person who has entered upon the realization of Arahantship endowed with four paths? It should not be said thus… (etc.). Has the person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of non-returning attained two fruits, and is not deprived of them? Is the person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of non-returning endowed with two fruits? Yes. Has the person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of non-returning attained three paths, and is not deprived of them? Is the person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of non-returning endowed with three paths? It should not be said thus… (etc.). Has the person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of once-returning attained the fruit of stream-entry, and is not deprived of it? Is the person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of once-returning endowed with the fruit of stream-entry? Yes. Has the person who has entered upon the realization of the fruit of once-returning attained two paths, and is not deprived of them?
