He understands an unconcentrated mind as "an unconcentrated mind." He understands a liberated mind as "a liberated mind." He understands an unliberated mind as "an unliberated mind." The wisdom, the understanding there... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "knowledge of others' minds." (D) Apart from knowledge of phenomena, knowledge of inference, knowledge of others' minds, the remaining wisdom... Conventional knowledge. 797. (5. Ka) Therein, what is wisdom for accumulation, not for diminution? Wisdom in wholesome actions of the sense-sphere is for accumulation, not for diminution. (Kha) Wisdom in the four paths is for diminution, not for accumulation. (Ga) Wisdom in wholesome actions of the form-sphere and formless-sphere is for accumulation and for diminution. (Gha) The remaining wisdom is neither for accumulation nor for diminution. 798. (6. Ka) Therein, what is wisdom for disenchantment, not for penetration? That wisdom by which one is dispassionate towards sensual pleasures, but does not penetrate supernormal powers nor the truths – this is called ‘wisdom for disenchantment, not for penetration’. (Kha) That same wisdom by which, being dispassionate towards sensual pleasures, one penetrates supernormal powers but not the truths – this is called ‘wisdom for penetration, not for disenchantment’. (Ga) Wisdom in the four paths is for disenchantment and for penetration. (Gha) The remaining wisdom is neither for disenchantment nor for penetration. 799. (7. Ka) Therein, what is wisdom tending to decline? For one who has attained the first jhana, perceptions and mental applications associated with sensual pleasure arise – this is wisdom tending to decline. (Kha) Mindfulness in accordance with that state becomes established – this is wisdom tending to stability. (Ga) Perceptions and mental applications associated with non-initial application arise – this is wisdom tending to distinction. (Gha) Perceptions and mental applications associated with disenchantment arise, connected with dispassion – this is wisdom tending to penetration. For one who has attained the second jhana, perceptions and mental applications associated with initial application arise – this is wisdom tending to decline. Mindfulness in accordance with that state becomes established – this is wisdom tending to stability. Perceptions and mental applications associated with equanimity arise – this is wisdom tending to distinction. Perceptions and mental applications associated with disenchantment arise, connected with dispassion – this is wisdom tending to penetration. For one who has attained the third jhana, perceptions and mental applications associated with joy and pleasure arise – this is wisdom tending to decline. Mindfulness in accordance with that state becomes established – this is wisdom tending to stability. Perceptions and mental applications associated with neither pain nor pleasure arise – this is wisdom tending to distinction. Associated with disenchantment... From perception and attention arise wisdom connected with dispassion, tending to penetration. Having attained the fourth jhana, perception and attention accompanied by equanimity arise, wisdom tending to decline. Mindfulness in accordance with that Dhamma stands firm, wisdom tending to stability. Perception and attention accompanied by the base of infinite space arise, wisdom tending to distinction. Perception and attention accompanied by disenchantment arise, wisdom connected with dispassion, tending to penetration. Having attained the base of infinite space, perception and attention accompanied by form arise, wisdom tending to decline. Mindfulness in accordance with that Dhamma stands firm, wisdom tending to stability. Perception and attention accompanied by the base of infinite consciousness arise, wisdom tending to distinction. Perception and attention accompanied by disenchantment arise, wisdom connected with dispassion, tending to penetration. Having attained the base of infinite consciousness, perception and attention accompanied by the base of infinite space arise, wisdom tending to decline. Mindfulness in accordance with that Dhamma stands firm, wisdom tending to stability. Perception and attention accompanied by the base of nothingness arise, wisdom tending to distinction. Perception and attention accompanied by disenchantment arise, wisdom connected with dispassion, tending to penetration. Having attained the base of nothingness, perception and attention accompanied by the base of infinite consciousness arise, wisdom tending to decline. Mindfulness in accordance with that Dhamma stands firm, wisdom tending to stability. Perception and attention accompanied by the base of neither perception nor non-perception arise, wisdom tending to distinction. Perception and attention accompanied by disenchantment arise, wisdom connected with dispassion, tending to penetration. 800. (8) Therein, what are the four analytical knowledges? Analytical knowledge of meaning, analytical knowledge of Dhamma, analytical knowledge of language, analytical knowledge of ready wit. Knowledge of meaning is analytical knowledge of meaning, knowledge of Dhamma is analytical knowledge of Dhamma, knowledge of the expression of that Dhamma in language is analytical knowledge of language, knowledge of knowledges is analytical knowledge of ready wit. These are The four analytical knowledges. 801. (9) Therein, what are the four practices? The practice of suffering with slow direct knowledge, wisdom, the practice of suffering with swift direct knowledge, wisdom, the practice of ease with slow direct knowledge, wisdom, the practice of ease with swift direct knowledge, wisdom. (Ka) Therein, what is the practice of suffering with slow direct knowledge, wisdom? These are the four practices. 802. (10) Therein, what are the four objects? Limited wisdom with a limited object, limited wisdom with an immeasurable object, immeasurable wisdom with a limited object, immeasurable wisdom with an immeasurable object. (Ka) Therein, what is limited wisdom with a limited object? For one who does not attain concentration at will, who pervades a limited object, the wisdom that arises, the knowing… …non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "limited wisdom with a limited object." (Kh a) What is limited wisdom with an immeasurable object? Of one who has not attained mastery in concentration, of one who pervades a vast object, the wisdom that arises, the understanding, ... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "limited wisdom with an immeasurable object." (Ga) What is immeasurable wisdom with a limited object? Of one who has attained mastery in concentration, of one who pervades a small object, the wisdom that arises, the understanding, ... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "immeasurable wisdom with a limited object." (Gha) What is immeasurable wisdom with an immeasurable object? Of one who has attained mastery in concentration, of one who pervades a vast object, the wisdom that arises, the understanding, ... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "immeasurable wisdom with an immeasurable object." These are the four objects. (11) The knowledge of one endowed with the path: this is knowledge of aging-and-death, this is knowledge of the origin of aging-and-death, this is knowledge of the cessation of aging-and-death, this is knowledge of the path leading to the cessation of aging-and-death. (Ka) What is knowledge of aging-and-death? Concerning aging-and-death, the wisdom that arises, the understanding, ... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "knowledge of aging-and-death." (Kha-gha) Concerning the origin of aging-and-death, ... concerning the cessation of aging-and-death, ... concerning the path leading to the cessation of aging-and-death, the wisdom that arises, the understanding, ... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "knowledge of the path leading to the cessation of aging-and-death." 803. (12-21) The knowledge of one endowed with phenomena: this is knowledge of birth, ... this is knowledge of becoming, ... this is knowledge of clinging, ... this is knowledge of craving, ... this is knowledge of feeling, ... this is knowledge of contact, ... this is knowledge of the six sense bases, ... this is knowledge of name-and-form, ... this is knowledge of consciousness, ... this is knowledge of volitional formations,
