The Triad. 4. The Section of Fours 793. (1. a) What is knowledge of the ownership of kamma? “There is what is given, there is what is offered, there is what is sacrificed, there is fruit and result of good and bad deeds, there is this world, there is a world beyond, there is mother, there is father, there are spontaneously arisen beings, there are in the world ascetics and brahmins who are rightly gone, rightly practiced, who, having themselves realized and directly known this world and the world beyond, proclaim it”— that wisdom, that understanding, …that non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view, of such a kind— this is called “knowledge of the ownership of kamma.” Except for knowledge conforming to the truths, all wholesome wisdom with taints is knowledge of the ownership of kamma. (b) What is What is knowledge in conformity with the truths? "Form is impermanent," or feeling... perception... volitional formations... "consciousness is impermanent," or whatever such conformity, acceptance, view, liking, approval, observation, and patient reflection on the Dhamma – this is called "knowledge in conformity with the truths." (Ga) Wisdom in the four paths is the knowledge of one endowed with the path. (Gha) Wisdom in the four fruits is the knowledge of one endowed with the fruit. 794. (2) The knowledge of one endowed with the path is knowledge of suffering, is knowledge of the origin of suffering, is knowledge of the cessation of suffering, is knowledge of the path leading to the cessation of suffering. (Ka) What is knowledge of suffering? The wisdom, the understanding that arises concerning suffering... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "knowledge of suffering." (Kha-gha) Concerning the origin of suffering... concerning the cessation of suffering... concerning the path leading to the cessation of suffering, the wisdom, the understanding that arises... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "knowledge of the path leading to the cessation of suffering." 795. (3) Wisdom in the wholesome and indeterminate of the sense-sphere is sense-sphere wisdom. Wisdom in the wholesome and indeterminate of the form-sphere is form-sphere wisdom. Wisdom in the wholesome and indeterminate of the formless-sphere is formless-sphere wisdom. Wisdom in the four paths, in the four fruits is unincluded wisdom. 796. (4. Ka) What is knowledge of phenomena? Wisdom in the four paths, in the four fruits is knowledge of phenomena. (Kha) He, by this Dhamma, known, seen, attained, understood, penetrated, leads to the past and future method. "Whoever, in the past, recluses or brahmins, fully understood suffering, fully understood the origin of suffering, fully understood the cessation of suffering, fully understood the path leading to the cessation of suffering, they fully understood this very suffering, they fully understood this very origin of suffering, they fully understood this very cessation of suffering, they fully understood this very path leading to the cessation of suffering." They fully understood this. Whatever recluses or brahmins in the future will fully understand suffering, will fully understand the origin of suffering, will fully understand the cessation of suffering, will fully understand the path leading to the cessation of suffering, they will fully understand this very suffering, they will fully understand this very origin of suffering, they will fully understand this very cessation of suffering, they will fully understand this very path leading to the cessation of suffering. The wisdom, the understanding there... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called "knowledge of inference." (C) What is knowledge of others' minds? Here, a monk, encompassing the minds of other beings, other persons, understands mind with mind. He understands a mind with lust as "a mind with lust." He understands a mind without lust as "a mind without lust." He understands a mind with hate as "a mind with hate." He understands a mind without hate as "a mind without hate." He understands a mind with delusion as "a mind with delusion." He understands a mind without delusion as "a mind without delusion." He understands a constricted mind as "a constricted mind." He understands a scattered mind as "a scattered mind." He understands an exalted mind as "an exalted mind." He understands an unexalted mind as "an unexalted mind." He understands a surpassable mind as "a surpassable mind." He understands an unsurpassable mind as "an unsurpassable mind." He understands a concentrated mind as "a concentrated mind."
