At the time when one develops the path to the formless planes, completely transcending the sphere of nothingness, dwelling having attained the fourth jhāna, accompanied by the perception of neither-perception-nor-non-perception, having abandoned pleasure… at that time there is contact… there is non-distraction. At the time when one develops the supramundane jhāna, leading to liberation, leading to the cessation of accumulation, for the abandonment of wrong views, for the attainment of the first stage, quite secluded from sensual pleasures… dwelling having attained the first jhāna, with painful practice and slow direct knowledge, at that time there is contact… there is non-distraction. These states are wholesome. These phenomena are indeterminate. Knowledge about these phenomena is analytical knowledge of meaning. By which expression there is the designation of those phenomena, knowledge in the designation of those phenomena is analytical knowledge of expression. By which knowledge one knows those knowledges: "These knowledges illuminate this meaning," knowledge about knowledges is analytical knowledge of ready wit. 742. These phenomena are indeterminate. Knowledge of these phenomena is analytical insight into meaning. The language by which those phenomena are designated, knowledge of the expression of that language of phenomena is analytical insight into language. The knowledge by which one knows those knowledges – "these knowledges illuminate this meaning" – knowledge of knowledges is analytical insight into ready wit. 4. The language by which those phenomena are designated, knowledge of the expression of that language of phenomena is analytical insight into language. The knowledge by which one knows those knowledges – "these knowledges illuminate this meaning" – knowledge of knowledges is analytical insight into ready wit. 744. These phenomena are indeterminate. Knowledge concerning these phenomena is analytical insight into meaning. By whatever expression there is the designation of those phenomena, knowledge concerning the expression of those phenomena is analytical insight into language. By which knowledge one knows those knowledges – "these knowledges illuminate this meaning" – knowledge concerning knowledges is analytical insight into ready wit. 745.
