Concerning the group of six bhikkhus. On what occasion? The group of six bhikkhus carried tales of bhikkhus who were quarreling, disputing, and in contention, on that occasion. One promulgation. Of the six origins of offenses, it arises from three origins...etc. 57. The pācittiya rule concerning teaching the Dhamma word by word to an unordained person, where was it laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the group of six bhikkhus. On what occasion? The group of six bhikkhus taught the Dhamma word by word to lay followers, on that occasion. One promulgation. Of the six origins of offenses, it arises from two origins: it may arise from speech, not from body or mind; it may arise from speech and mind, not from body...etc. 58. Concerning an unordained person... For one who sleeps together for more than three nights, where was the offense of expiation laid down? It was laid down in Āḷavī. Concerning whom? Concerning many bhikkhus. In what matter? Many bhikkhus slept together with an unordained person, in that matter. One original rule, one supplementary rule. Of the six origins of offenses, it arises from two origins – sometimes it arises from body, not from speech, not from mind; sometimes it arises from body and mind, not from speech…and so on. 59. For one who sleeps together with a woman, where was the offense of expiation laid down? It was laid down in Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning Venerable Anuruddha. In what matter? Venerable Anuruddha slept together with a woman, in that matter. One original rule. Of the six origins of offenses, it arises from two origins, as in the case of the goat's hair…and so on. 60. For one who teaches Dhamma to a woman with more than five or six words, where was the offense of expiation laid down? It was laid down in Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning Venerable Udāyī. In what matter? Venerable Udāyī taught Dhamma to a woman, in that matter. One original rule, two supplementary rules. For one who declares a genuine superhuman state to an unordained person, where was the offense of expiation laid down? It was laid down in Vesālī. Concerning whom? Concerning the bhikkhus of Vaggumudā's bank. In what matter? The bhikkhus of Vaggumudā's bank spoke in praise of each other's superhuman states to laypeople, in that matter. One original rule. In what matter? In the matter where the group of six monks revealed a serious offense of a monk to an unordained person. One regulation.
