The discourse on the act of rebuke is finished. 243. The discourse on the act of banishment 412. Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is foolish, unskilled, prone to offenses, unrepentant, associating with laypeople, dwelling with inappropriate lay associations. If it occurs to the bhikkhus there thus – ‘Friends, this bhikkhu is foolish, unskilled, prone to offenses, unrepentant, associating with laypeople, dwelling with inappropriate lay associations. Come, let us perform the act of banishment on him.’ They perform the act of banishment on him – by unrighteous division. So from that dwelling, he goes to another dwelling. There too, it occurs to the bhikkhus thus – ‘Friends, this bhikkhu has been subjected to the act of banishment by the Saṅgha, by unrighteous division. Come, let us perform the act of banishment on him.’ They perform the act of banishment on him – by unrighteous unity… and so on… by righteous division… by a semblance of righteousness, by division… by a semblance of righteousness, by unity… and so on…. As above, so the cycle should be made. The discourse on the act of banishment is finished. 244. The discourse on the act of expulsion 413. Here, bhikkhus, a bh Monks, a monk is a defiler of families, of evil conduct. Thereupon, if it occurs to the monks thus: "Indeed, friends, this monk is a defiler of families, of evil conduct. Come, let us perform the act of banishment upon him." They perform the act of banishment upon him— by unrighteousness, by a faction. He goes from that dwelling to another dwelling. There too, if it occurs to the monks thus: "Indeed, friends, this monk has been subjected to the act of banishment by the Saṅgha, by unrighteousness, by a faction. Come, let us perform the act of banishment upon him." They perform the act of banishment upon him— by unrighteousness, in agreement... by righteousness, by a faction... by a semblance of righteousness, by a faction... by a semblance of righteousness, in agreement... A cycle should be applied. The acts of banishment are concluded. 245. Discourse on the Act of Reconciliation 414. Here, however, monks, a monk abuses and reviles a layperson. Thereupon, if it occurs to the monks thus: "Indeed, friends, this monk abuses and reviles a layperson. Come, let us perform the act of reconciliation upon him." They perform the act of reconciliation upon him— by unrighteousness, by a faction. He goes from that dwelling to another dwelling. There too, if it occurs to the monks thus: "Indeed, friends, this monk has been subjected to the act of reconciliation by the Saṅgha, by unrighteousness, by a faction. Come, let us perform the act of reconciliation upon him." They perform the act of reconciliation upon him— by unrighteousness, in agreement... by righteousness, by a faction... by a semblance of righteousness, by a faction... by a semblance of righteousness, in agreement... A cycle should be applied. The discourse on the Act of Reconciliation is concluded. 246. Discourse on the Act of Suspension for Not Seeing an Offense 415. Here, however, monks, a monk, having committed an offense, does not wish to see the offense. Thereupon, if it occurs to the monks thus: "Indeed, friends, this monk, having committed an offense, does not wish to see the offense. Come, let us perform the act of suspension upon him for not seeing the offense." They perform the act of suspension upon him for not seeing the offense. they are – by unrighteousness, divided. He goes from that dwelling to another dwelling. There too, it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: “Indeed, friends, this bhikkhu has been suspended by the Saṅgha for not seeing an offense, by unrighteousness, by those divided. Come, let us suspend him for not seeing an offense.” They suspend him for not seeing an offense – by unrighteousness, united... by righteousness, divided... by a semblance of righteousness, divided... by a semblance of righteousness, united... ...and so on... A wheel should be made. The discourse on suspension for not seeing an offense is finished. 247. The discourse on suspension for not making amends for an offense 416. Here, monks, a bhikkhu, having committed an offense, does not wish to make amends for the offense. If there it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: “Indeed, friends, this bhikkhu, having committed an offense, does not wish to make amends for the offense. Come, let us suspend him for not making amends for the offense.” They suspend him for not making amends for the offense – by unrighteousness, divided. He goes from that dwelling to another dwelling. There too, it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: “Indeed, friends, this bhikkhu has been suspended by the Saṅgha for not making amends for an offense, by unrighteousness, by those divided. Come, let us suspend him for not making amends for the offense.” They suspend him for not making amends for the offense – by unrighteousness, united... by righteousness, divided... by a semblance of righteousness, divided... by a semblance of righteousness, united... ...and so on... A wheel should be made. The discourse on suspension for not making amends for an offense is finished. 248. The discourse on suspension for not relinquishing 417. Here, monks, a bhikkhu does not wish to relinquish a wicked view. If there it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: “Indeed, friends, this bhikkhu does not wish to relinquish a wicked view. Come, let us suspend him for not relinquishing a wicked view.” They suspend him for not relinquishing a wicked view... They perform the act of suspension for not relinquishing a bad view – by unrighteousness, divided. He goes from that dwelling to another dwelling. There too the bhikkhus think: "Friends, this bhikkhu has been suspended by the Saṅgha for not relinquishing a bad view, by unrighteousness, divided. Come, let us perform the act of suspension for him for not relinquishing a bad view." They perform the act of suspension for him for not relinquishing a bad view – by unrighteousness, united... by righteousness, divided... by a semblance of Dhamma, divided... by a semblance of Dhamma, united... A cycle should be made. The discourse on the act of suspension for not relinquishing (a view) is finished. 249. The discourse on the revocation of the act of rebuke. 418. Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who has been rebuked by the Saṅgha behaves correctly, humbles himself, conducts himself properly, and requests the revocation of the act of rebuke. If the bhikkhus there think: "Friends, this bhikkhu who has been rebuked by the Saṅgha behaves correctly, humbles himself, conducts himself properly, and requests the revocation of the act of rebuke. Come, let us revoke the act of rebuke for him." They revoke the act of rebuke for him – by unrighteousness, divided. He goes from that dwelling to another dwelling. There too the bhikkhus think: "Friends, for this bhikkhu the act of rebuke has been revoked by the Saṅgha by unrighteousness, united. Come, let us revoke the act of rebuke for him." They revoke the act of rebuke for him – by unrighteousness, united. He goes from that dwelling too to another dwelling. There too the bhikkhus think: "Friends, for this bhikkhu the act of rebuke has been revoked by the Saṅgha by unrighteousness, divided. Come, let us revoke the act of rebuke for him." They revoke the act of rebuke for him – by Dhamma, divided. So from that dwelling, he goes to another dwelling. There too, the bhikkhus think: “Friends, this bhikkhu’s act of censure by the Sangha was revoked by Dhamma, divided. Come, let us revoke his act of censure.” They revoke his act of censure — by a semblance of Dhamma, divided. So from that dwelling, he goes to another dwelling. There too, the bhikkhus think: “Friends, this bhikkhu’s act of censure by the Sangha was revoked by a semblance of Dhamma, divided. Come, let us revoke his act of censure.” They revoke his act of censure — by a semblance of Dhamma, united. 419. Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, having been censured by the Sangha, behaves properly, humbles himself, conducts himself for amends, and requests the revocation of the act of censure. If the bhikkhus think: “Friends, this bhikkhu, having been censured by the Sangha, behaves properly, humbles himself, conducts himself for amends, and requests the revocation of the act of censure. Come, let us revoke his act of censure.” They revoke his act of censure — by non-Dhamma, united. So from that dwelling, he goes to another dwelling. There too, the bhikkhus think: “Friends, this bhikkhu’s act of censure by the Sangha was revoked by non-Dhamma, united. Come, let us revoke his act of censure.” They revoke his act of censure — by Dhamma, divided. So from that dwelling, he goes to another dwelling. There too, the bhikkhus think: “Friends, this bhikkhu’s act of censure by the Sangha was revoked by Dhamma, divided. Come, let us revoke his act of censure.” They revoke his act of censure — by Dhamma. divided by a semblance of the Dhamma. He goes from that dwelling to another dwelling. There too, it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: “Friends, the censure action by the Saṅgha for this bhikkhu has been revoked by those divided by a semblance of the Dhamma. Come, let us revoke his censure action.” They revoke his censure action – united by a semblance of the Dhamma. He goes from that dwelling to another dwelling. There too, it occurs to the bhikkhus thus: “Friends, the censure action by the Saṅgha for this bhikkhu has been revoked by those united by a semblance of the Dhamma. Come, let us revoke his censure action.” They revoke his censure action – divided by what is not the Dhamma. 420. Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, having been censured by the Saṅgha, behaves properly, lets down his hair, conducts himself well, and asks for the revocation of the censure action. If it occurs to the bhikkhus there thus: “Friends, this bhikkhu, having been censured by the Saṅgha, behaves properly, lets down his hair, conducts himself well,
