Offer weapons such as swords, edged with needles. After prostrating, take a seat. Banish obstacles. After explaining the common preliminary practices, request the offering of a mandala. (2b) Regarding the upper garment, for those holding the lineage of Karma Guru and others, unless practicing in the Drikung Kagyu tradition, the crow hat is not worn, so it is not necessary. Instead, put it on backwards. Hold a flower in your hand and pray: 'Master, I have fallen into the hands of heretics and the eight classes of spirits. Please dispel them with the curse of the sage. I beseech you to grant the wondrous Gatri.' Recite this three times. Then, to establish faith and authenticity, tell the story: In the southern land of India, there was a king named Dharma Ashoka. Because the people violated the king's laws, the king was displeased and angered the chief ministers of the country, tormenting the eight classes of spirits, especially punishing them, thus destroying all who violated the king's laws. Thereafter, the king's laws became very strict. At that time, the king had no means of self-protection, so the nagas and other eight classes of spirits afflicted him, and he contracted leprosy. His heart and lungs burned, he vomited blood, and he was tormented by illness. Many diviners and astrologers were consulted, and they said, 'In a cave in the forest, there dwells a sage named Stainless Light, who practices asceticism, has powerful curses, and eats the fruits of trees. If you can invite him to bless you, it will be helpful; otherwise, no method will be effective.' When asked who knew about this, an old Brahmin said, 'In the cave in the forest, even tigers, leopards, and bears cannot escape, let alone ordinary people. The sage Stainless Light comes to the summit of Mount Kundu on the fifteenth day of each month to teach the Dharma to hundreds of thousands of sages.' So, on that day, people were sent to the summit of Mount Kundu (3a) to search. An old sage appeared, somewhat thin, with a bluish complexion, a thick beard, and wearing a white lower garment. The king made a request to him, welcomed him with a chariot, invited him to the king's palace, offered him a seat, presented him with various foods, and the king bowed and paid his respects, saying, 'Because I lost the king's laws, I punished the nagas and earth spirits and other eight classes of spirits, and therefore I have been afflicted by spirits and have contracted this disease. Please have compassion and bless me.' The sage said, 'Great king, it is a sin!' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
