Nāropa's faith not only did not diminish, but it grew and increased. Once, the teacher and student were on the top of a tall building. The teacher said, "If someone could jump down from here, I would be very happy." Nāropa thought, "The teacher has a way to quickly restore me." So Nāropa jumped, and all his limbs were broken. The teacher did not come for many days. Nāropa thought, "Now there is no other way but to die." The teacher came, recited mantras, and Nāropa was restored. In this way, he served the teacher for twelve years with immeasurable hardships, but the teacher did not even say a single kind word. Then, once, in an empty plain, the teacher said, "Now I will teach the instructions, offer the mandala." Nāropa said, "There is no water or flowers here." The teacher said, "Don't you have blood and fingers on your body?" Nāropa drew blood and sprinkled it on the ground. He cut off his fingers and piled them up. Then, Tilopa collected Nāropa's fingers, smeared mud and saliva on Nāropa's face, and Nāropa immediately fainted. When he woke up, he directly saw the reality of all dharmas, and his fingers were also restored. Again, he bestowed all the instructions and subsequent instructions. When Nāropa became the lord of yoga, Tilopa said, "Now you should not argue, do not take disciples, do not teach. In this way, you will quickly attain supreme accomplishment." After that, while Nāropa was abiding in non-distracting meditation at Phullahari, once he had to debate with heretics. At that time, in a monastic community, a learned heretical opponent appeared to debate. When they could not debate with him, an old woman said, "There is a wise man named Glorious Fame (Śrīkīrti) living in Gaṃyona." The monks found him and asked him to debate. He thought that this would benefit Buddhism, so he debated the next day. After the debate was slightly defeated, he thought, "Why would a lord of speech like me be defeated?" He remembered the teacher's instructions, so he prayed to the teacher. Immediately, the debate was also won. Tilopa, holding a bleeding human head, manifested in the form of a terrifying beggar. Nāropa prostrated to the teacher. The heretic said, "You Buddhists say you are compassionate, but you prostrate to this rakshasa without compassion, you yourself have been defeated." Tilli

The master pointed his finger at the heretical temple and danced, shouting "Pammo, Pammo," and the temple collapsed. Thus, in both debate and power, the Buddha's teachings were victorious. It is said that because he slightly broke the guru's command, he did not attain the supreme accomplishment in that lifetime, but he became enlightened as soon as he abandoned his body. This master mostly resided in Pullahari. Sometimes he would travel to various places, bestowing empowerments, teaching tantras and instructions, and subduing heretics with debate, and performing many other deeds of a wise man. Primarily, he benefited sentient beings by effortlessly accomplishing the twelve great deeds. He was a great practitioner who always saw the faces of all the yidam deities and brought common accomplishments under his control. Among this master's disciples were the gatekeeper pandit Shantipa, who was omniscient in debate, and many lords of the teachings such as Jowoje Atisha. There were also uncommon disciples: in terms of holding the explanatory lineage, there were four who were skilled in the father tantras and four who were skilled in the mother tantras, making eight in total. The first four were: Black Fearless Vajra, Pito Hadu, Jaya Kara, and Kashmiri Akara Siddhi. The latter four were: Manaka Shri, Dharma Mati, Great Pamtingpa, and Prajna Rakshita. All of them were masters of power. Some say that Pitwa Hadu and Dharma Mati are the same person. Among the first four, it is said that there was Jnana Garbha. There were also four disciples who attained accomplishment: Glorious Dombi Pa, Riri Pa, Kandha Pa, and Kasori Pa, all of whom attained accomplishment. These twelve disciples are recorded as they were previously known in Tibet. Glorious Dombi Pa was initially a cowherd for the king's many cattle, and he was illiterate. He developed faith in a master who resided in Naropa Monastery, so he repeatedly brought milk and butter. Then, the master Naropa also taught him a generation of the mind, and in the mandala of Hevajra, he gave him empowerment and also taught him a method of meditation. While he was meditating, he was once carried away by the water and swallowed by a fish. Inside the fish's belly, he saw the face of the Heruka mandala and was unharmed when he was spat out. After that, in front of the master, he

After practicing, meditating single-mindedly, supreme accomplishments were brought under control, the light of wisdom in all Dharmas, especially all Vajrayana, increased. He also taught many disciples, and they attained accomplishments. Therefore, it became necessary to compose many treatises, and by relearning the letters, he silenced all the objections of the heretics and Buddhist panditas with the words of Dharma. His good name spread in all directions. He was also Atisha's teacher. Although Tibetans say that Jowo (Atisha) did not see him in person, it is said that Jowo composed the "Unwavering Ultimate Accomplishment Practice," and that he personally heard teachings from Dombipa. In the fourth chapter of his treatise, there also appears a commentary written by Jowo, in which there also appear words indicating that he actually received these teachings, and that he met with Indian scholars. The Sanskrit original of the commentary's volume is also in the possession of the teacher Nirvanashri, which I have also seen. The small teacher Domby asked the small Kusala Bhadra. That teacher was born in a place called Mebar in the western part of India. From a young age, he was proficient in many fields of knowledge. He requested a great heretical guru to ordain him, but he did not accept him. Thinking that he must refute all these heretics, he went to the auspicious Vajrasana and became ordained. He studied and became extremely proficient in all the Tripitaka. Later, he disguised himself as a Brahmin and went to the region of Kamaru. He expertly learned all the heretical tenets from about six heretical panditas and Brahmins. He learned and accomplished the illusions of the Kamaru region, as well as many mantras of the Bije Giri tradition, many evil mantras of the dakinis, and many kinds of Shangara mantras. He went to the heretical panditas who were previously in the western region. There was a king named Karna, and he was asked to be a witness. More than two thousand Buddhist yogis and panditas gathered, and more than eight thousand heretics gathered and debated. The teacher was intelligent and knowledgeable about the heretics, so he refuted them all one by one. There, they competed in displaying miracles, and a heretical yogi, as if bringing down two stars from the sky to the ground.

When it appeared, there were two black things like houses in the shape of human heads. Knowing that it was the teacher's illusion, he recited the mantra to destroy it, and the two things turned into two lumps of coal. Everyone thought it was an illusion. Some heretics showed their bodies burning, etc., and when water was poured on them, the fire went out, etc., and they were refuted one by one, saying that everything was conquering illusion with illusion. In the end, the teacher turned the four heretic leaders into cats by chanting mantras. The mantra of Shyang nga ri turned all the household items of all the heretics gathered there into mud and stones. There, the heretics were defeated. For a while, Buddhism flourished greatly in that place. It is said that there are still many now. There, the teacher thought: These of mine are not real supernatural powers, but misleading people with various vidya mantras, which is a great sin. All the previous study and contemplation had become slaves to attachment and aversion, so now I must abandon everything, so I became a yogi of Tsarya pa and kept practicing. After that, I met the teacher Glorious Ḍombi pa, requested initiation in the mandala of Bliss and Emptiness (Bde dges), and obtained all the key instructions. Similarly, I also went to all the lamas mentioned in the previous lineages, pleased all the lamas as before, and also obtained the key instructions, and practiced for a long time. I also met many past great accomplished ones such as the great accomplished one Black Action (Nag po spyod pa), Birupa (Bi rU pa), and Shavaripa (ByA da pa), and they also gave key instructions. He himself stayed in the forest of Sarabhanga in the east for twelve years, cutting off the vines of food, drinking only water and practicing, and generated realization equal to the sky. Walking on cliffs like a bird, traveling a month's journey in one hour, fierce beasts also giving respect, making ghosts and spirits into servants, seeing the faces of many yidam deities, and knowing the thoughts of sentient beings, therefore teaching the Dharma accordingly. At that time, the key instructions were widely spread in India, and he was known as having attained accomplishment. Once, I actually met the teacher Black Action (Nag po spyod pa) and he said: You do actions with elaboration.
