Because I am not good at teaching the Dharma, it is necessary to teach the appropriate instructions step by step according to their own minds for the benefit of many different sentient beings. As it is said: 'If you are not proficient in the five sciences, even the noble ones will not attain omniscience.' Jowo (Tibetan: ཇོ་བོ, Sanskrit: Atiśa, Romanized Sanskrit: Atiśa, Literal meaning: Supreme) also said: 'We have short lives and do not have time to listen to and study too many external doctrines and treatises. The internal doctrines are very important.' If the lama says, 'No matter what Dharma you ask me, I don't know,' that is also not acceptable. Therefore, one needs someone who can guide others to the right path with great wisdom. However, without compassion, even if you suffer a little, you will have many sorrows, thinking, 'I don't want to take care of these disciples anymore.' When it is necessary to benefit many wild sentient beings, even if you protect them with the Dharma, they may say many unpleasant words. At that time, if there is no compassion, even if you have done a lot of Dharma and hardships for their sake, you may think, 'I have done so much for him, but he treats me like this,' and give up on them. If compassion is not enough, you may not try your best to help your disciples when they are suffering. Therefore, for disciples who trust you, even if it costs your life, you must have great compassion, thinking, 'As long as he does not fall into the lower realms.' Even if you rely on such a virtuous lama, if you do not ask for precious instructions, it is like dogs and horses, even if you are with the lama, it is useless, even if you serve the lama for millions of years, it is useless. Therefore, you must ask for precious instructions without reversing the head. Moreover, these instructions should not be like watered milk in the market, and should not be mixed with too many words and terms, but must be instructions that have been passed down from generation to generation and whose blessings have not diminished. However, if you do not practice properly, then these instructions are like being in a book, useless. As it is said: 'Can merely reading a medical book benefit the sick?' Merely reading a medical book is useless, just as you must prescribe and take medicine, it is not enough to just have instructions, you must put them into practice. The Blessed One also said: 'I have shown you the path to liberation from suffering, the Tathagata is only a guide, you must practice diligently.' If you just teach a lot of instructions, etc., it is like playing music for the deaf, meaningless. Being in endless food and wealth, but dying of hunger. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is no different from death, it is because the food has not been digested. Even if there are instructions, it is not enough; practice is extremely important. Curl up like a ball and lie down in your own place. After eating, drink a cup of water. Relatives surround you. At the time when the breath becomes weak, we go from one appearance to another, from one happiness to another, needing the escort of a Yidam (deity) and Dakini (female embodiment of enlightened energy). It is important to clear the snow from our respective heads now. Please keep this in mind. The stream of nectar spoken by the Sugata (Buddha), is the source of happiness that eliminates the suffering of afflictions for the fortunate. Keeping it in mind is the best way for the Bodhi (enlightenment) sprout to grow. By practicing, beings will surely be liberated from the suffering of Samsara (cyclic existence). These are the words of Lama Rinpoche. ཨྠྀི།། (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) ཨྠྀི།། is a seed syllable, which cannot be translated. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
