also will not go. Better than reciting and practicing mantras a million times, reciting the guru's supplication three times is more powerful than a hundred thousand times. Even if one practices the completion stage until the end of the kalpa, abandoning distractions, it is not even twenty thousand times better than the mere appearance of the guru in the center of one's mind. Therefore, by meditating on, praising, and contemplating the guru, one will definitely achieve Buddhahood in one go. Thus it is said. The fifth general point is to show the characteristic of generating faith through the arising of blessings: Relying on the guru brings blessings. When blessings arise, such longing for the guru arises: Just as a person desires to be liberated from the suffering of falling into a pit of fire, so one desires the guru in one's mind; just as one desires a boatman on an island in the ocean, so one desires the guru in one's mind; just as one desires to be released from the king's prison, so one desires the guru in one's mind; just as one desires to escape from the executioner's pit, so one desires the guru in one's mind. As a sign of this, one becomes very weary of worldly affairs, and one is even able to offer one's own head, limbs, and body to the guru. Also, in the Vajra Arrangement Tantra it says: An island in the ocean and a great pit of fire, even if one is trapped in the king's prison, remembering the guru will definitely bring liberation. Thus it is said. The sixth general point is to show the distinctions of the guru: There are two types of gurus and teachers; there are also two types of teachers: worldly teachers and transcendent teachers. The worldly teacher, named as a teacher, is the teacher who teaches skills such as medicine, astrology, crafts, and finding food and wealth. The transcendent, truly authentic teacher has six types: The general teacher takes on the responsibility of being the general teacher of the community. The mantra practitioner takes on the responsibility of being the general teacher, which is the same as the former. The guiding teacher is the one who introduces one to the door of Dharma. The vow-initiation teacher is the one who bestows initiations and confers vows and precepts. The teacher who restores broken vows is the one who requests restoration for the faults of one's own vows and protects oneself by bestowing a long-life initiation. The teacher who liberates the knowledge stream is the one who teaches all the conclusive tenets. The teacher of oral instructions and transmissions is the one who bestows transmissions and shows oral instructions. Thus, these six types of teachers are also mentioned in the Vow Samaya Arrangement Tantra: General and

Make up for deficiencies and breakages. Liberate the lineage of knowledge and the power of vows. To the master of oral instruction, regard him as uncle, father, mother, and eyes. Look upon him with more than heartfelt sincerity. With the three doors of body, speech, and mind, without pretense or deceit, cherish him greatly and offer pleasing things. Thus it is said. There are two kinds of lamas: the root lama and the branch lama. The root lama has four qualities: empowerment, transmission of the lineage, oral transmission, and instruction. Thus, if one also practices his teachings and possesses all four, he is a root lama. A branch lama has one, two, three, four, and so on. Moreover, the field of accumulating merit with the root lama and the branch lama is particularly great. Because it has seven times the power, having one is greater than having two. Having three is greater than seven times that. All three of these are better than generating the root of virtue with seven million, it is more virtuous to accumulate merit with just one root lama. In the Tantra of the Manifestation of Heruka, it says: Seven million branch lamas, even if offering gold equal to one's own body, the accomplishment of offering well to the root lama with one srang is difficult for even the Buddhas to express. Thus it is said. Also, in the Tantra of Union and Bindu, it says: As many Buddhas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, offering and honoring them especially with umbrellas and victory banners, the merit is greater than offering to one pore of the lama's hair. Thus it is said. The seventh general meaning is how to please the lama: how the best person pleases the lama, how the intermediate person pleases the lama, and how the lowest person pleases the lama. Among these, there are four ways for the best person to please the lama: pleasing with faith, pleasing with wisdom, pleasing with diligence, and pleasing with samadhi. Among these, pleasing with faith is: without change or weariness from beginning to end. Thus it is also said in the Tantra of the Glorious Wheel of Accomplishment and Play: Among virtues, faith is supreme. To the Buddhas filling three thousand worlds, offering and filling three thousand worlds with offerings, even the rain of this offering cannot withstand it. Thus it is said. Pleasing with wisdom is: being able to teach the lama's words without omission, that is, not allowing the lama's teachings to decline. Thus it is also said in the Wheel of Accomplishment and Play: Pleasing the lama with supreme wisdom, one's own pleasing is:

The Dharma spoken by the Buddhas, even for hundreds of thousands of eons, whoever reads and speaks it, the merit obtained is inconceivable. Thus it is. To please the guru with diligence: abandoning worldly affairs, practicing in mountains and other places, showing the signs of body and speech, leading sentient beings to the path, is to please the guru. As it is said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way": Practicing the generation stage for three eons, the merit of pleasing the guru, I do not boast. Thus it is. To please the guru with samadhi: Here, the way to please the guru with samadhi is missing. Those of middling capacity please the guru by pleasing him with the body, that is, doing the guru's work and actions, doing it to please the guru, pleasing him with the fire of life, when interruptions of life, fire, water, and other royal obstacles arise, I can act as the guru's substitute, if others create obstacles to the guru's body, I can cut off their lives first, and for the guru's benefit, I can give up my life. As it is said in the "Glorious Nectar Source Tantra": If there is harm to the guru, those who are destroyed by evil minds, one should kill them oneself, killing the lives of hundreds of thousands of sentient beings, cannot compare to this merit. Therefore, it is said that merit is the prediction of the Buddha who possesses the three poisons. Completing the guru's work is the same as this. Thus it is. How do inferior people please the guru: pleasing him with wealth and possessions, offering the kingdom and retinue to please him, purifying the three spheres and pleasing him with whatever is available. Pleasing him by any means possible. As it is said in the "Great Adornment Tantra": Whatever the difference between great and small, being able to please the guru, the merit is difficult to express. Thus, by what means does one please the guru. The eighth general meaning, the faults of having wrong views and contempt for the guru, cannot be fully expressed. Not to mention others, just having contempt for the guru in a dream will cause these things to happen, as it is said in the "Samaya Vow Tantra": In the dream time, body, speech, and mind.
