The Root Tantra of the Gathering of Wrathful Mantras. In Sanskrit: Vajra Mantra Bhiru Santimāra Tantra Nāma. In Tibetan: The Root Tantra of the Gathering of Wrathful Mantras. Homage to the Bhagavan, Lord of Power! Thus have I heard. Once, the Bhagavan, the Great Vajradhara himself, on the summit of the Great Mount Meru, in the auspicious place of the Willow Grove, in a great palace that was exceedingly adorned, was in union, inseparable, with the Great Mother, the Mistress of the Five Elements. From his body, he emitted a great array of various rays of light, utterly shaking and agitating all the abodes of the wicked, the arrogant, the majestic, the violent, and so forth, in the realms of the world. Then, those leaders of hosts, together with their retinues and attendants, gathered like leaves driven by the wind, as follows: Yama, the Great Black Lord of Life, together with his consort; the Great Black Demon with fiery breath; the consort, the Black Demoness, dripping with blood; the Rakshasa King, the Black Slayer, together with his consort; the Great Yaksha, Purna Bhadra; the consort, the Yakshini, the flesh-eating Ekajati; the Great Lord, the King of the Gods; the Lord of Rudra, Black Liberation; the Great King Muje Tsenpo; the Lord of the Outer Gods, Black Kāla; the Great Pervader, the Wanderer; the Naga King, the Fierce Youth; the Great King, the God of Strength; the Great Yaksha, the Hand-Holder; the Great Lord, Vajra Beauty; the Great Naga-Demon, Red Yamashud; and also gods, nagas, asuras, flesh-eaters, pretas, hosts of bhutas, hosts of messengers, and countless terrifying beings gathered together. Then, the Bhagavan, knowing that he should utterly subdue those hosts of great evildoers, manifested the mandala of the Great Cemetery. The mandala of the sphere of space was exceedingly terrifying in appearance. The sound was unpleasant, fierce, and violent. The smell was foul, rotten, and putrid. The taste was bitter, sour, and spicy. The touch was hot, rough, unpleasant, and repulsive. Blazing with the fire of great hatred,

Corpses filled the rocky cave, the darkness of ignorance thickened, the great river of desire flowed, and the wind of jealousy raged. On the great pile of excrement, tigers, leopards, wild beasts, jackals, vultures, carrion birds, and flocks of birds gathered, devouring flesh, drinking blood, and destroying bones. Decaying, rotting, and crumbling, separating, breaking, and destroying, devouring, scattering, and utterly dissipating, festering, dripping, and disappearing, contending, clamoring, and shouting, terrifying, cruel, and ferocious, reveling in the enjoyment of play. All beings hold fierce minds, engaging in violent acts of killing, cutting, and dismembering, uttering harsh and barbaric roars. With angry asceticism and great power, they completely subdue and annihilate everything, fully employing manifest annihilation. What is seen and perceived in this way is merely a conventional appearance. In reality, not even a hair of any sentient being is harmed in the slightest. One's own discriminating thoughts operate in bliss. This alone is the definitive truth. This is the first chapter, the beginning of the manifestation of great miracles. Then, all the Buddhas, the king Vajradhara, the Buddhas of the three times with their retinues, from beginningless time, in order to empower the great protector who guards all the teachings, the Yaksha Vajradhara, together with five hundred companions, each in front of their main retinue, arose from their seats, manifesting miraculous transformations. From the seed syllable dwelling in their hearts, all of the ten directions of space were violently stirred by the dark blue wind, and whirlpools of blood churned and surged. From the ground filled with flesh and bones, the fire mountain of the eon blazed fiercely. The palace of burning skull cups, fierce and terrifying, was not approached even by powerful deities. A body that perfectly accomplished all activities, pervading inside, outside, and everywhere. The corpses of enemies who utterly hated the teachings were spread beneath the feet as a cushion. Endowed with three pure light cushions, they manifested as the supreme form, pressing those with lineage at the bottom, manifesting and purifying the eighteen emptinesses. With their hands, they subdued the eight arrogant gods. Holding skull cups and blood in their left and right hands, first holding the empowerment symbol of the heart, unchanging compassion, deep blue in color.
