From the realm of Amitabha, Bhagavan Great Powerful Lotus Heruka, The King of Power, possessing power, Subduing samsara, compassionate Avalokiteśvara, Lord of compassion, I prostrate and praise you. After such praise, Lotus Empowerment and Glorious Hayagriva became inseparable. Glorious Hayagriva uttered the neighing of a horse three times. He performed the three dances of the horse, subduing the three realms. Overpowering the three existences with his might, He subdued all the arrogant ones. Hari Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧརི་ཧཱུ~ྂ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: हरि हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: hari hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hari Hum)! I am the Great Powerful Heruka! I am the wrathful form of Hayagriva! One neighing of the horse pierces the sky, Subduing the gods above. One neighing of the horse pierces the intermediate space, Subduing the eight classes of gods and demons. One neighing of the horse pierces below, Causing the nagas below to faint and collapse. One neighing of the horse resounds in the ten directions, The arrogant protectors of the directions are crushed underfoot. Each neighing of the horse of Dapal, The sound of the wrathful Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུ~ྂ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) is like a thousand thunders roaring. The striking of Phaṭ (Tibetan: ཕཊ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: फट, Sanskrit Romanization: phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: Phat) is like a thunderbolt falling from the sky. The hollow iron chain shakes the three realms. The wind from the nose shakes the three existences. From the ears, thunder roars, shaking the three thousand worlds. From the tongue, lightning flashes, illuminating the intermediate space. From the eyes, water flows, stirring up existence. From the mouth, bared fangs liberate from birth and death. The beard blazes with fire, burning away evil. The hands with weapons liberate from enemies and obstacles. The horse's hooves subdue arrogance. The three dances of the horse are performed with a resounding beat. The first dance of the horse, with one method, Suppresses the formless existence from the peak. The second dance of the horse, with the intermediate one, Overpowers the seventeen realms of form with its might. The third dance of the horse, with the last one, Subdues the twenty realms of desire underfoot. By striking the dancing horse dance, After subduing the eight classes of gods and demons, Adorning the assembly of arrogant and malicious ones. The glorious horse dance, go ro ro, The wrathful dance posture, lok se lok. The dance is the dance of subduing arrogance, The song is the song of subjugation, The words are the words of the ultimate Dharma. The right foot strikes the dance with skillful means, Subduing the assembly of wrathful deities. The left foot strikes the dance with wisdom, Subduing the assembly of wrathful goddesses. By striking the dancing horse dance, Destroys the assembly of arrogant obstacles. Hari Hari Hari! By striking the dance of fierce asceticism, Some of all the arrogant ones were knocked down, Some fainted, Some stiffened, Some had their body and mind destroyed, Gathered under the feet of the glorious one. Thereafter, the Bhagavan Great自在 Hayagriva, Spoke to the assembled retinue: The great tantra, the tantra of subduing arrogance, When Avalokiteśvara is wrathful, He transforms into the body of the Horse King, Taming the arrogant and malicious, Granting common and supreme accomplishments, Like a wish-fulfilling jewel, all needs and desires arise, The merits and blessings are inexhaustible, This tantra is entrusted to the assembled retinue, Protect the essence of the doctrine and make it stable. Thus he spoke. From the Hayagriva Tantra of Subduing Arrogance, The chapter on subjugating arrogance and entrusting, the twenty-first chapter.
