In the language of India: Arya Manjushri Yamantaka Guhya Harishi Bansho Nama Tantra. In the Tibetan language: The Tantra Called the Secret Sixty of Holy Manjushri Yamari. Homage to Holy Manjushri Yamari. Thus I have heard at one time. In the abode of the great palace of precious jewels of the light of the Dharmadhatu, a place of great blazing, upon a seat of lion, lotus, sun, and moon, the Holy King, the Bhagavan, was dwelling. Surrounded by hundreds of thousands of billions of Bodhisattvas of the ten bhumis, he was dwelling, turning the wheel of Dharma of the four vehicles. That one of great compassion, skilled in means, gazed upon the beings of the six realms with the perfectly pure eye of great wisdom. Beings were greatly suffering from the five poisons, the three poisons, and afflictions. The pure one, beside the great Mount Meru, at the bottom of the great ocean, the great Lord of Death of Karma, Dharma Saha by name, who is other than my own self, the permanent one, was united with a consort named Tsa Mundra, and had twenty-eight sons and daughters, namely: Yama Raja, the intoxicating burner, Arya Maru, nine-knotted hair, Kongtse Drakjom, Awa Bull-head, Yawati, Chyasang, Smikpa, Telpa, Lha Chok Dudkha, Dharma King, Red Eye, Demon Subduer, fourteen males. And also females: the one who smells of menstrual blood, the iron wolf with nine heads, the wisdom dakini, the burning mother, the Rakshasa with the hanging head, the good human with the single vajra hair, the white-skinned hermit with fangs, the one place of the Lord of Death, Remati, the timid one, the single blood-hair mother, the black Naga woman who travels in the body, the wind-like one with three eyes and fangs, the Yaksha girl Eshan, the fire god with the single vajra hair, Pala Madri Nasama, surrounded by twenty-eight sons and daughters. It seizes vitality, it seizes radiance, it seizes breath, it eats flesh, it drinks blood, it gnaws bones, it licks shins, it wears skin, it cuts off the lives of all beings. It also inflicts punishment and torment on those beings who have not died. It seizes blessings and abides there. Then, the noble Manjushri, seeing this, generated compassion for beings, thinking that it was necessary to transform into a wrathful form to subdue them. From his peaceful form, he transformed into the wrathful Yamantaka. How did he transform the Lord of Karma Yama? He also transformed many attendants like his own, and descended upon his pillow. His dwelling was filled with dry and wet skulls, and many new and old corpses with the lineage of great gods. All of these were destroyed, and he was pressed underfoot. From his mouth, he recited Hūṃ Hūṃ (Tibetan, Devanagari: हूँ हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ Hūṃ) and Phaṭ Phaṭ (Tibetan, Devanagari: फट् फट्, Romanized Sanskrit: phaṭ phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: Phaṭ Phaṭ) and Oṃ Ākrōṭikāya Yamāntaka Hana Mata Bhañja Hūṃ Phaṭ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओँ आक्रोटिकाय यमान्तक हन मत भञ्ज हूँ फट्, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ ākrōṭikāya yamāntaka hana mata bhañja hūṃ phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: Oṃ, Ākrōṭika, Yamāntaka, Kill, Mata, Destroy, Hūṃ, Phaṭ). The Lord of Karma Yama cried out, "Alas, great hero, body, speech, and mind! Be patient, do not kill me!" That sound was uttered, and the great glorious Yamantaka transformed the mother Tara herself into the wrathful mother Ekajaṭī. Father and mother became non-dual, and all the attendants were also tormented underfoot. All the attendants uttered evil sounds, listening to whatever commands the great glorious one gave. The Lord of Karma Yama each offered their life essence: Ya Ma Meta Kṣe Rā Ja Sato Runa Yoni Rala Ca Ni (Tibetan, Devanagari: य म मेत क्षे राज सतो रुन योनि रल च नि, Romanized Sanskrit: ya ma meta kṣe rāja sato runa yoni rala ca ni, Literal Chinese meaning: Ya Ma Meta Kṣe Rā Ja Sato Runa Yoni Rala Ca Ni). There it was offered. From that life essence, the glorious Yamantaka guided and swore, "It was not good that you previously took the lives of beings. Now, do not harm beings, but take the lives of those who harm the Buddhist teachings and do not keep their vows. In the degenerate age of five hundred, when no one can subdue the teachings of the Sugata, do not break my command, but accomplish the entrusted task." Thus, he swore. To deepen the meaning of the oath, he made the Lord of Karma Yama a seat to magnify him. He also seized his wife and made her the consort of Yamantaka. He seized all the attendants, controlled them, and made them his own attendants. In this way, the pride of the Lord of Karma Yama and his retinue was destroyed, and the glorious Yamantaka himself was placed in the perfect position, united with the consort Ekajaṭī.
