Homage to the Bhagavan, the King of Spontaneous Accomplishment! In the time of beginninglessness, in that place of self-nature's spontaneous accomplishment, the great teacher of the Dharmadhatu, for the retinue of self-born wisdom, taught the doctrine of great union. In the time of great clarity of awareness, in that place without movement, the teacher of great wisdom, for the wheel of awareness and light, taught the doctrine of peaceful taming. In the time when awareness appears as power, in the place without the wheel of awareness, the teacher of perfect enjoyment, for the retinue of Bodhisattvas, taught the doctrine of purifying obscurations. In the time of taming through appearance, in that place of the self-nature of Akanishta, the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, taught the doctrine of pacifying afflictions. In the time of beginningless habitual tendencies, in that place where existence arises, the wisdom Samantabhadra, for the retinue of sentient beings of the six realms, taught the doctrine of burning away sin obscurations. There are two types of taming: taming the mind and taming the body. The first chapter is the introduction. The secret lord Vajrasattva, the gatherer, asked the teacher of teachers, Samantabhadra, about the method of expelling executioners and purifying karmic debts. The teacher of teachers, Samantabhadra, said that there are three ways to expel obstacles: by samadhi, mantra, and incitement. The great Samantabhadra expels with the pride of the gods. Similarly, expelling with mantra means expelling with the mantra of the wrathful wisdom deities.
