The Great Tantra of the Wrathful Deity. In Sanskrit: Krota Deva Tantra Maha Nama. In Tibetan: Named "The Great Tantra of the Wrathful Deity." Homage to the Bhagavan, glorious, blood-drinking, majestic king! Thus have I heard at one time, dwelling in the ten places of Heruka, acting in the eight great charnel grounds, are the Buddhas, the Bhagavans of the three times, the Sugatas who know all aspects. To tame the difficult-to-tame beings, they manifest as wrathful bodies. The Bhagavan, glorious Samantabhadra Heruka, has nine faces of great blazing. The central face dwells in dark blue-black. The right is purplish-black. The last of the right is yellowish-black. The first of the left is reddish-black. The last of the left is greenish-black. The face above the central face dwells in red. Its right is white. Its left is blue. The face above that dwells in white. The first of the eighteen hands on the right holds a nine-pronged vajra. The second holds a five-pronged vajra. The third holds a wheel. The fourth holds a surrounding wheel. The fifth holds a blazing jewel. The sixth holds a sword. The seventh holds a jewel-topped staff. The eighth holds the lingam of the great Ishvara. The ninth holds the heart of the great Ishvara. The first on the left holds a great conch filled with nectar. The second holds a bell. The ninth holds a noose of a garland of intestines. The eight feet stand on a seat of pride. Dwelling in the places are: White Woman, Thief Woman, Ignorant Woman, Ash-Making Woman. Dwelling in the near places are: Swollen Woman, Fierce Woman, Spotted One, Assembly of Mothers. Furthermore, dwelling in the lands are: Lion-Faced, Tiger-Faced, Wolf-Faced, Fox-Faced Woman. Dwelling in the near lands are: Vulture-Faced, Kite-Faced, Crow-Faced Woman, Owl-Faced Woman. Dwelling in the fields and near fields are: Horse-Faced, Pig-Faced, Monkey-Faced, Wolf-Faced Woman.
