Thus, in its samaya, Food, drink, nourishment, and speech, Whatever form of fault, abandon it. That is, mountain garlic diminishes for five days, Wind garlic diminishes for nine days, The power of the tongue diminishes one fault. Ginger, turmeric, broth, and juice, Diminish for three days. Meat and alcohol not blessed, Diminish for five days. In short, any kind of foul-smelling odor, Whatever food or drink it may be, Kills the power of mantra for many days. Therefore, abandon these. Lies, slander, and so forth, All non-virtuous actions of speech, Completely destroy the power of mantra, Or at least delay it for a long time. Therefore, abandon all of these. When striving in recitation of mantra, Spitting and worldly chatter, Diminish the power of mantra, so abandon them. Except for the mantra of the intended action, Phlegm, mucus, saliva, and so forth, Throwing them on the road kills the power. Or else, swallow them, Or discard them in a clean place. Cut off faults and strive in mantra. Especially, those with broken samaya, And those of impure lineage, such as defiled men and samaya violators, Do not mix with them. Mixing with them diminishes mantra recitation. Those of that kind, And all the samayas precious to mantra, Keep secret what should be kept secret, And likewise, entrust secrets, Cherish being able to keep any secret word. Whatever signs and omens may arise, When the signs of mantra power appear, Keep them very secret, For it is samaya, so guard it well. Furthermore, all the general and specific samayas, That are precious to mantra, Cherish being able to keep them without reversing the order.
