Lord, with the limb of the measure of abiding, how does one meditate on the meaning of samadhi? Please, Lord of Secrets, instruct. The Lord of Secrets said: Listen, great Bodhisattva! The measure of abiding samadhi is taught as superior, intermediate, and inferior. The superior grasps as if grasping an object. The intermediate grasps as if grasping the daytime. The measure of the inferior's grasp is like the sunrise at dawn, and like the sunset before darkness prevails. Such is the attainment of measure. When the superior measure is attained, the pith instructions should be quickly bestowed. The prophecy for superior samadhi is like a golden mountain adorned with turquoise. Wisdom is clear, like an unfurled umbrella. Immediately, one becomes Vajrasattva, the heart essence of all Buddhas, the great sovereign of yoga. When it becomes the intermediate meaning, combine it with the element and bestow the pith instructions. Repeatedly instruct, and one will reach the measure of habituation and superiority. The prophecy for intermediate samadhi is like reaching the precious golden continent. When it becomes inferior samadhi, if the prophecy and pith instructions are bestowed, it is like grasping a golden thread. One will not be timid in the place of guidance. This is the following yogi who will break through from higher to higher. Without perfecting the three powers of samadhi, perfecting the prophecy anywhere is like searching for food without a mouth. Without perfecting wisdom and samadhi, claiming to be a Buddha is like claiming to be a king with a jewel. Without knowing the true meaning of the heart essence, claiming to be Atiyoga of Dzogchen is like longing for wealth that one does not possess. Without possessing wisdom and samadhi, claiming to be a yogi is like throwing a fledgling off a cliff. Seizing the life of fierce gods and demons, without knowing the lock of the door of life, performing fierce actions is like waiting for rain in a cloudless sky. Without possessing the measure of samadhi, and without remembering the guru's pith instructions, even if one has studied much, it is like a blind person finding gold. Without knowing even a bit of yellowness, where will one realize the yellowness of gold? One cannot realize the experience of meaning. Therefore, the guru's pith instructions and the attainment of samadhi are extremely precious. At the very time of bestowing the instructions, when the inferior measure is reached, contemplate the mandala of the sun, and strive for the meaning of union, and the channels.

Wind, bindu, diseases, etc., the wise give instructions on these. If there is no final limit, then instructions should not be given. It's like giving gold to a dog, (it) does not recognize the essence of precious jewels, and it will become a place of many slanders. Thus it is said. Also, from the key to opening illusion, the thirteenth chapter, which shows the branch of the limit of abiding. Again, the questioner said: Alas! Alas! Lord of Secrets! What are the branches of unfavorable faults? Please, Lord of Secrets, reveal them. The Lord of Secrets said: Alas! Great Bodhisattva, listen! The branches of unfavorable faults are: confusion, straying, obscuration, dullness, and agitation, the magic of obstacles on the path. Thus it is said. Again, the questioner said: What are the distinctions of confusion? Please, Lord of Secrets, reveal them. The Lord of Secrets said: Alas! Great Bodhisattva, listen! The distinctions of confusion are shown from the basis, time, cause, condition, and nature, there are thirteen in total, including metaphor, classification, mode of existence, duration, the merit of reversal, the fault of non-reversal, and the result. Again, the questioner said: Alas! Alas! Lord of Secrets! The meaning of the distinctions of confusion is shown by five, two, and three. Please explain its meaning well. The Lord of Secrets said: Alas! Great Bodhisattva, listen! The basis is the Dharmakaya with defilements. Time is confusion from beginningless time. Showing the cause of ignorance and confusion, it is co-emergent ignorance. The basis of the conditions of inner and outer awareness, and the three: object, time, and kalpa, are the causes and conditions of ignorance and confusion. The nature of confusion itself is, inwardly, the subtle and arrogant clinging to self, outwardly, the proliferation of grasping at subject and object, that is the nature of confusion. The two types of karma, good and bad, are rabbit shadows, smoke, rope, snake, mirage, and water. That is the metaphor for ignorance and confusion. The classifications are two types: good confusion and bad confusion. There are four modes of existence, namely, self and object, both, and confusion exists on the condition. If one does not encounter a condition with valid measure, and the wisdom of insight does not arise, then there may be irreversible confusion. Confusion occurs until one encounters the condition. The merit of reversing confusion is the result of nirvana. The fault of not reversing is the cycle of the three realms. Showing the result of confusion is the six realms, the equivalent result of karma.
