Each with its own distinct characteristics. The oral instruction, the Vajra Vehicle, descends as one. Thus, the teacher, endowed with the qualities of a great body, compassionately reveals it for the sake of future generations. This is the first chapter, the introduction. Then, the teacher abides in the nature of a vajra-like body. At that time, at that moment, from within the assembly, Vajrasattva requested: "Observe the birth and death of sentient beings in the three realms of samsara. Like the turning of a waterwheel and the spinning of a chariot wheel. There is no end to liberation from the four sufferings. Please reveal a method to attain liberation from this samsara. Extract the essence of certainty from the heart, and establish its teaching for the benefit of future generations." Having requested thus, the teacher spoke: "Vajrasattva and all others, listen with intense focus, with a stable body and senses. For the sake of future generations, this golden tortoise is the root tantra of the Vajra Vehicle. This, which has been extracted in verses, is also how sentient beings of the three realms of samsara, observing birth and death, and transmigrating in samsara, transmigrate because they do not realize it as it is. For the sake of sentient beings of the three realms of samsara attaining liberation, although there are eighty-four thousand dharma gates, extract the essence of certainty from the heart, and having completely gathered the root, reveal it. Without error, place certainty in the heart. If you do not ascertain it, you will transmigrate in the three realms. Also, observing the birth and death of sentient beings of the three realms of samsara, if you do not abide as it is in what is as it is, you will transform into conceptualizing in a way that is not in accordance with it. Accumulating the cause of that observation, you will transmigrate in the three realms. The causes and conditions of that conceptualization are inexhaustible. Latent imprints and so forth appear like scattering hair. Its causes and conditions will not reveal its meaning. Not observing, abiding as it is, is suchness itself. Non-thought, non-permanence, it transcends the realm of observation. Without observation, transcending the realm, is the expanse of clear, open sky. The expanse of sky is primordially suchness itself. Observation gives objects shape and color, but this has no shape or color; it is the expanse of insubstantial sky. That which cannot be transformed into anything is suchness itself. Suchness is completely devoid of representation. That which is shown like pointing to the moon with a finger, the moon and the finger that points to it are not one; they are far apart. Suchness and it, the two are far apart."

Ah! The nature of suchness will surely manifest itself. Such realization is the unique Buddha. O Buddha with all-knowing wisdom! Please fully understand the truth that he has proclaimed. Although the differences in vehicles are said to be numerous, In summary, they are encompassed by the four doors and five minds. These four doors, I have only proclaimed in a provisional sense, Those who enter here will be accompanied by conceptual thoughts. It is difficult for the truth to arise from conceptual thoughts, It is said that results come after passing through rebirths. The general meaning of all the inner and outer canons, I have proclaimed in a definitive sense, it is completely perfect. However, it is difficult to hit the heads of those who are difficult to tame. This nature is inherently complete with the two accumulations, therefore the two obscurations are purified. The meaning of purity is inherently suchness. Suchness is truly proclaimed in the Middle Way. Transcending the two joys of no object of reference. Difficult to conceive, difficult to realize even with conception. Like a sealed iron box, Likewise, this meaning of suchness is difficult to proclaim. Unfathomable, immeasurable, like an ocean of key instructions. Precious and hard to find, like a pure crystal ball. Rare and hard to find, like a wish-fulfilling jewel. Those who realize this are like the Udumbara flower. This is difficult to see, like a golden turtle. Those who see this meaning do not see this. Not seeing but seeing is inherently suchness. Without deception, suchness abides as it is. The realm where the non-dual Buddha abides, the space for meditation. Practice, seeking, praying, and speculation are like children. The ground and path are non-dual, the journey is endless. The door and depth are non-dual, everything is suchness. Desiring a path where there is no path is like an elephant chasing footprints. It is extremely difficult to obtain this even after traversing kalpas. Everything is suchness, suchness abides there. The vajra realm is vast, everything is inherently enlightened. This meaning cannot be communicated if measured by words and standards. Dualistic non-Buddhists will fall into the extremes of permanence and annihilation. Who can speak of this meaning, the stream of conceptual thoughts? In conceptual thought, there is no supreme aspect. Without thinking, without meditating, non-thought is suchness. That meaning is very deep, difficult to fathom. It cannot be destroyed by measurement, nor can it be symbolized by examples. The two truths are inseparable, without words, without letters. Without obscuration, without seeking, there is not even a speck of prayer. Not relying on scriptures, not seeking a vehicle, This nature that is inherently pervasive, inherently primordial, inherently enlightened, Is difficult to realize.
