The reason is as follows: The initial source and the present end, divided by essence, definition, size, and parts. Nature, antidote, action, function, and object. Showing through the door of metaphor and symbol is greatly spoken. Now also, Vajrasattva, listen with your mind. In the beginning, when the alaya of the mind first arises, that which is not thought of, not grasped by meaning, that which is not known, co-emergent ignorance, when thought arises in that, then the alaya of the mind arises. That itself, now, the basis of where it abides, all sentient beings of the six realms without exception, Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas, abide in a way that is both common and uncommon. Now also, listen with your mind, all the assembled retinue. Where does the final alaya of the mind go? When the antidote wisdom, endowed with scripture, arises spontaneously, then it is definitely certain, either all at once or gradually. If that meaning is not transmitted, there is no certainty of attainment. Because the meaning of the four essences is not known, consciousness, habit, sleep, alaya, like the example of oil sticking to white cloth, abide in the essence of ignorance and thought of dharmata. That also, listen to the essence of the retinue. The definition of the alaya of the mind is in appearance, because various consciousnesses think of objects, therefore, it grasps as truly certain even things that do not exist, like the thought of a snake on a rope. All sentient beings have parts that are large and small. The antidote for Shravakas and Bodhisattvas, the subtle habit, abides very subtly. Defilements that do not manifest, because they are destroyed by cause, condition, nature, and antidote, finally dissolve separately, there is no thing. Now, for as long as the alaya exists, the continuum is unbroken, and there is no cessation in the three times. That also, listen to the essence of the assembled retinue. The types of common antidotes are the four, such as generosity, defilements and habits gradually subside on their own, meditation and wisdom destroy ignorance and wrong views, uncommon wisdom is perfected all at once. Virtuous and non-virtuous actions produce whatever cause is similar. Vipaka karma is not gradual, quickly without interruption, the fruit ripens, the fruit that is not predicted is not certain. Now also, Vajrasattva, listen with your mind. The function of good and bad habits is the six realms, when experiencing the distinctions of happiness and suffering separately, the function of subtle parts in Shravakas and Bodhisattvas, is self-appearing like a mirror of wisdom. Symbolic examples are cloth, oil, and space, water and mirror color.

Whereabouts and so on. From the basis, ignorance arises from causes and conditions, Born from nothing, it becomes very strange. Alaya consciousness does not actually exist, but is considered as mind. Because there is duality, just as where there is smoke, there must be fire. From this, the fruits of good and evil are produced. The three doors of body, speech, and mind exist as symbols of thought. Now, assembled retinues, listen again. These distinctions are shown to make the less intelligent believe. In reality, ignorance is considered as mind. To generate the cycle of grasping and being grasped, it is the alaya. From the Dzogchen view, the tantra that is complete from the depths of wisdom, The fifth chapter, which explains the alaya consciousness of the base mind. From then on, for the essence of the assembled retinue, The all-knowing teacher, Dharma Lord, again said: Habitual tendencies, alaya consciousness, the source of the first arising. Where it is now, and where it will ultimately go. Essence, characteristics, definition, action, example, Signs, antidotes, classifications, functions, and numbers. These have been summarized and spoken. Again, Vajrasattva, now listen again. The initial six limits arise from conceptual thought. Not thinking about anything, knowing but not understanding the true meaning. In a self-distracted manner, conceptual thought spreads. Non-conceptual self-appearance obscures and strengthens habitual tendencies. Ignorance and habitual tendencies rely on previous causes. When ignorance ceases, suffering arises. Samsara relies on the unchanging Dharmakaya. Therefore, body and mind have habitual tendencies. Again, the essence of the assembly, listen with your mind. Where it ultimately goes, the time is uncertain, depending on conditions. If it encounters wisdom, ignorance and habitual tendencies will be destroyed. Without it, there is no way to purify habitual tendencies. Just as without sunlight, darkness will not flee. The essence is false, initially clinging to truth. Conceptual thought, clinging, clinging, the mind grows, and dwells in the continuum. Thus, ultimately the stream of habitual tendencies will not cease. Therefore, samsara arises again and again. A characteristic is that one gives rise to another, completely changing. Its fruits ripen gradually and separately. Causes and conditions gather, and wisdom destroys through antidotes. How good or bad, big or small, depends on this. Now again, Vajrasattva, listen with your mind. The basis of all habitual tendencies is conceptual thought. The definition is the stream of conceptual thought, extremely subtle. Merely relying on habitual tendencies, conceptual thought grows coarsely. Habitual tendencies, alaya consciousness, appear as objects. Action is to ripen any fruit. This is also the first.
