The Section on the Establishment of the Nine Vehicles The Section on the Establishment of the Nine Vehicles Homage to the Venerable Manjushri. Here, in the first chapter of the treatise on the distinct determination of the three vows, when identifying the objects to be known, the basis to be tamed, the realms, and the ultimate result of liberation, there are three different views due to the differences in philosophical tenets. When explaining how all paths of liberation are included in the nine vehicles, the establishment of the nine vehicles, such as the Shravaka vehicle, which are summarized and taught in the commentaries, will be slightly elaborated upon. The term "Great Perfection" (Dzogchen) means that all phenomena gathered by self-appearance in the expanse of one's own present moment of awareness are complete from the beginning without needing to be sought after. Suchness itself has never been stained by obscuration of its own nature, so its essence is primordially pure, hence it is perfect in abandonment. That mind itself, from the aspect of emptiness of essence, does not abide in the eight extremes of elaboration, such as cessation, so although it is free from all assertions, from the aspect of clarity of its own nature, all the qualities of the Victorious Ones, such as the ten powers and four fearlessnesses, are spontaneously accomplished as its essence, hence it is perfect in realization. These two are also like falling to one side, but since nature does not cease from the moment of emptiness of essence, various aspects of spontaneous manifestation of interdependent origination arise, but from the moment such arises, the essence, emptiness, primordial purity, and freedom from elaboration do not waver or move in any way. Therefore, the awareness of the union of primordial purity and spontaneous accomplishment, the three bodies self-existing, has the four activities spontaneously accomplished, hence it is perfect in activity. Thus, since it is the nature of the three, abandonment, realization, and activity, it is called "Great." In wisdom, the essence is emptiness, the nature is clarity, and compassion is all-pervasive. There are the three wisdoms of the ground, the five wisdoms that grasp characteristics, such as the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu, and the two wisdoms that engage with objects, such as knowing how it is and how much there is. The general form of these wisdoms, the essence of mind, is the wisdom of self-arisen awareness, so it is called the general form of wisdom. That very verse shows the ground continuum, so to that

The way of holding views differs according to the different tenets of philosophical schools. For example, those who follow the explanation of the scriptures separately consider that the mental factor of contentment, which is not attached to the five faculties such as the eye and the five objects such as form, is complete with three qualities. That is, the person who is content with only coarse Dharma robes, a simple dwelling, and meager sustenance is considered to be a non-attached noble being. Those who do not take the scriptures as a standard and follow the Sutra school consider that the seed of the mind of all sentient beings is the stainless wisdom, which has the potential to generate the Buddha-nature itself. Those who consider all external phenomena to be only mind consider that from beginningless time, it is not necessary to generate the potential of the Buddha-nature in the mind-stream of sentient beings, but that the power of the Buddha-nature is naturally obtained by the Dharma-nature. In reality, they consider the awareness that is empty of the grasped and the grasper, the self-knowing and self-illuminating awareness, to be the alaya-consciousness. Because these three consider the Tathagatagarbha to be temporary, they are not realistic philosophical schools, and not the definition of a philosophical school. The Madhyamaka school, which does not abide in the extremes of permanence and annihilation, is the definition of a philosophical school because it considers the Tathagatagarbha, which is the nature of mind and is pure, to be the Buddha-nature. The view of the Great Vehicle Madhyamaka is even more excellent, and the six tantric classes also have many different ways of naming the basis, the Buddha-nature. For example, the Kriya Tantra considers it to be the Suchness of the Self. The Carya Tantra and Yoga Tantra consider it to be the deity of the Vajradhatu of conventional truth, with the blessing of ultimate truth without characteristics. Maha Yoga calls it the great Dharmakaya of inseparable truth and excellence. Anu Yoga considers it to be the mandala of the son's root Bodhicitta, in which the Dhatu and Wisdom are inseparable. Great Perfection Ati Yoga considers that the essence of self-nature, the nature of compassion, the self-nature, the three Kayas of awareness are self-existing, which is originally pure, spontaneously accomplished, and union. Here, the basis, the Tathagatagarbha, is the cause of the fruit's close attainment, and the practice of the three vows of the path is the simultaneous condition, these two
