Herein is the condensed essence of how to differentiate between inner and outer tenets. Herein is the condensed essence of how to differentiate between inner and outer tenets. Homage to the Omniscient! In brief, the divisions of all philosophical tenets are as follows: The basis for division, which naturally expands, has two divisions: mundane and supramundane. The first is the vehicle of gods and humans, which remains as it is. The vehicle of humans involves practicing the sixteen pure human dharmas, seeking the higher realms. The vehicle of gods involves adopting and abandoning the ten virtues. The second is abiding in purification. As for the outer tirthikas, generally, views on the aggregates can be divided into three hundred and sixty. When condensed, there are twenty mountains of views on the aggregates. When further condensed, there are two views: eternalism and nihilism. The view of eternalism is held by the Samkhya tirthikas, which is the root or general basis of all tirthikas. They consider the three—atoms, darkness, and power—as the path. They believe that the nature of these equals is called "self," which is white and oily, round, as large as a thumb, as small as a mustard seed, residing indestructibly within the hearts of all sentient beings. In the future, at the time of liberation, it will be above the heavens, surrounded by white light, appearing in the color and form of liberation. The second is the view of nihilism, which has two divisions: the view of the cessation of cause and the view of the cessation of effect. The first, the view of the cessation of cause, is that the previous mind is not this present one. The cause is the four elements, and there is a naturally existing mind. That mind is obscured by the individual elements and becomes invisible. When it encounters conditions such as heat and moisture, those minds arise and form a mind. The reason is that earth is heavy, wood moves in water, sound burns in fire, wind moves, and so on, all of which are said to be mind. The second, those who speak of the cessation of effect, not only deny past lives but also deny that the four elements have a mind that produces causes, believing that each is the nature of its own essence. Thorns are sharp, the sun rises, water flows downward, beans are round, peacock feathers are beautifully colored, and the king's daughter is beautiful like fire. They say that none of these are made by anyone but arise naturally. The second is the supramundane vehicle, which has two divisions: the Hinayana Shravaka
