These are summarized into three: the object of merit arising from generosity, the object of merit arising from ethics, and the object of merit arising from meditation. If we differentiate these, among the six perfections, the first two are indicated by their own names, and patience, meditation, and wisdom are the objects of merit arising from meditation, and diligence is the companion of all virtues. These six perfections also depend on the mind, namely, the mind of giving is generosity, the mind of renunciation is ethics, the mind of non-anger is patience, the mind of joy is diligence, non-distraction is meditation, and the wisdom that distinguishes the Dharma well. Secondly, the aspiration for the fruition of complete enlightenment is: "For the benefit of beings, may I attain Buddhahood." This itself is the actual generation of bodhicitta with two meanings or two aspects, that is, "for the benefit of beings" refers to the mind that focuses on sentient beings with compassion for the sake of what is to be done, and "may I attain Buddhahood" refers to the aspiration that focuses on complete enlightenment with the wisdom of what is to be done. Therefore, relying on these roots of virtue, for the sake of all sentient beings as infinite as the sky, may I attain Buddhahood, this is aspiration bodhicitta. Incidentally, there are five trainings for aspiration bodhicitta: not abandoning sentient beings, constantly remembering the benefits of generating bodhicitta, striving for the means of accumulating merit, striving to cultivate bodhicitta, and adopting and abandoning the eight black and white dharmas. If one sentient being is abandoned, the root of aspiration bodhicitta will be lost, so one should generate the thought of benefiting all sentient beings. If one remembers the benefits, joy will arise, and thus one will strive in generating bodhicitta, so one should constantly remember the benefits of generating bodhicitta. If one accumulates merit, the power of generating bodhicitta will increase, so one should accumulate merit through various methods such as the seven-branch offering. There are three ways to cultivate the mind: cultivating the cause, meditating on the four immeasurables. Cultivating the actual mind, taking and receiving bodhicitta three times a day and three times at night. Cultivating the training, meditating on the three: self and other are equal, exchange, cherishing others more than oneself. First, the four immeasurables are: may sentient beings who do not have happiness have the loving-kindness of wanting to have happiness, may sentient beings who have suffering have the compassion of wanting to be free from suffering.

Compassion is the wish to be free from suffering. Joy is the wish to be inseparable from the happiness of being free from suffering. Equanimity is the wish for the pacification of attachment and aversion in those with attachment and aversion towards near and far. The actual practice of mind training is to take the vow of generating the mind of enlightenment in any of the six times—morning, noon, afternoon, evening, midnight, and dawn—through elaborate or concise rituals. Equality of self and others is the equality of self and others in the desire to accomplish happiness and the desire to pacify suffering. Exchange is giving one's own happiness to sentient beings and taking the suffering of sentient beings upon oneself. Cherishing others more than oneself is abandoning one's own benefit and accomplishing the benefit of others. Among the eight black and white dharmas, what is to be cultivated are the four white dharmas, and what is to be abandoned are the four black dharmas. Among the four black dharmas are deceiving those worthy of offerings, causing regret in those who have no regret, slandering the holy, and deceiving beings. The four antidote white dharmas are not knowingly lying even if one's life is at stake, placing all on the path to enlightenment, showing respect as one would to bodhisattvas, and treating all sentient beings with an upright mind. If one perseveres in these, one will not forget the mind of enlightenment in all lifetimes, and all the qualities of the grounds and paths will increase and expand more and more like the waxing moon.
