If 'non-action' becomes 'action,' it is contradictory. Does the deliberation of sentient beings have a cause? If there is no cause, it will always deliberate; if there is a cause, then that cause also needs another cause preceding it, so my (the author's) autonomous deliberation is lost. Is this deliberation autonomous deliberation, or deliberation controlled by others? If it is the former, then one will not experience all sufferings such as birth, old age, sickness, and death, because one is autonomous in doing anything. If it is the latter, then I cannot deliberate, because I have already admitted that I am autonomous. Sixth, regarding the distinction of entering and exiting: Does a person with the characteristic of entering and exiting enter and exit, or does someone without the characteristic of entering and exiting think so? If it is the former, then there is no Pudgala (person, sentient being) other than the skandhas (aggregates), because only the collection of skandhas can be observed to have the action of entering and exiting. For example, entering through having a cause, like semen and blood forming one's own body; entering with the nature of birth, like a sprout; entering with the nature of destruction, like a river gradually drying up; entering from one to another, like a lamp transferring from one place to another; the change of entering, like doing different things and then entering another state; the change of riding a vehicle, and so on. If it is the latter, then I will not become an enterer, because I do not have that characteristic, and entering itself is a loss. Moreover, it necessarily depends on the previous entering, so the analysis of 'retreat' is also done incidentally. Seventh, regarding the distinction of the eater, the doer, and the liberated one: Is it considered that a thing transformed by the happiness and suffering produced by external objects is the eater, or is it considered that an unchanging thing is the eater? If it is the latter, then it is not suitable to be the eater, because the eater is a thing that produces benefit or harm by enjoying the edible. If it is the former, then I become a useless real entity, because only in the skandhas can change be seen. The fault of change should also be known in the following two cases. Is it considered that a change of mind is the doer, or is it considered that an unchanging thing is the doer? If it is unchanging, then the doer is lost, because the change of mind is suitable to be the doer. Is it considered that a thing transformed by afflictions and near afflictions is the liberated one, or is it considered that an unchanging thing is the liberated one? If it is unchanging, then it has not been bound before, so how can it be liberated later? Eighth, regarding the loss of action: Is the actor only established on me (Pudgala)? Or can it also be established on other things? If it is the former, then like the burning of fire. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it is like the first view, then statements such as 'illuminating with light' will become unreasonable. If it is like the second view, then it is sufficient to merely designate 'the seer' and 'the hearer' as agents, and there is no need to affirm substantial existence. The ninth question that needs to be discussed is: Does the term 'person' refer only to 'I'? Or does it also refer to others? If it is like the first view, then it will be unreasonable to designate the names of Buddha, qualities, spiritual friends, etc., with reference to the body of a person. If it is like the latter view, then 'the seer' etc. are also included, and that alone is sufficient, and there is no need for a real 'self'. The tenth question is: Is a concept like 'I' virtuous or non-virtuous? It cannot be virtuous, because it arises even more strongly in the ignorant; and it arises even without effort; and it generates fear of liberation; and it is seen to foster the accumulation of faults. If it is non-virtuous, then it is a reversed and mistaken object of attachment. Therefore, it cannot be used to prove the existence of 'self'. It is also unreasonable to consider 'no-self' as non-virtuous, because it has been praised as supreme by the omniscient one; and it needs to be accomplished with great effort; and it does not generate fear of liberation; and it immediately obtains white results; and it is an antidote to faults. Even if it is virtuous, the view of 'self' is reversed, so it cannot be used to prove the existence of 'self'. Furthermore, does the 'self' abide in the reality of the object, and therefore cause the generation of the view of 'self'? Or, like no-self, is it imputed due to the habituation of improper attention? If it is like the first view, then Buddhas would not generate certainty about no-self, because the view of 'self' arises from the power of things themselves, which would create obstacles. If it is like the latter view, then it would not be possible to prove the existence of 'self' through it. In short, for any continuum or collection, the 'person' is not merely a designation, but has its own nature. Because the 'person' is neither the same as the nature of the aggregates nor different from the nature of the aggregates. The above is a brief summary. The cause of the doubt about the existence of 'self' is taking the way the innate view of self appears as a measure. And for the innate view of self, only a 'self' that is different from the aggregates appears; because people would rather abandon these aggregates and seek something better than this, but they do not want to abandon 'self'. When a real person is negated, it necessarily implies that the person is merely a designation, because anyone must acknowledge that the person is merely a designation. And the existence of designation can be understood through the power of negating substantial existence. Others say that the mind is a confused attachment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
