Collected Teachings of Je Tsongkhapa JTs155 Essence of the Path of Lord Mañjuśrī, Presented to Jedrakpa as a Scroll Essence of the Path of Lord Mañjuśrī, Presented to Jedrakpa as a Scroll Essence of the Path of Lord Mañjuśrī, Presented to Jedrakpa as a Scroll Regarding these things that have arisen earlier and later as places of trust, although there are many signs of trust, due to lack of space for writing, to summarize, I meditate that I possess the view of the Prasangika school, which is devoid of all acceptance of the Svātantrika school's views, and I made good inquiries. You explained the reasons why I still didn't understand, and after debating and examining it for a long time, you said many things such as, 'The view of the Prasangika school needs to be like this, and your mind only has this kind of thought.' These were composed in accordance with the treatises of the noble father and sons (Maitreya and Asaṅga), so I realized that I didn't understand, and after asking for ways to understand, I made explanations. Now, I have a completely new understanding of the nature of dependent origination, which I had never understood before, and I have gained great certainty. In general, the fact that emptiness eliminates the extreme of existence and appearance eliminates the extreme of non-existence is common to both the exoteric and esoteric paths. The characteristic of the Prasangika school is that appearance eliminates the extreme of existence and emptiness eliminates the extreme of non-existence, and one must understand how emptiness transforms into cause and effect. All phenomena of samsara and nirvana arise from causes and produce effects, and the Svātantrika school acknowledges this non-deceptive nature. Similarly, the non-deceptive nature itself transforms into emptiness that abandons all extremes, and there are countless details. In short, whether it is without investigation or for others, In conventional truth, cause and effect are not deceptive; whether it is with investigation or for oneself, in ultimate truth, there is no distinction between deception and non-deception. It is not like saying that there is no such distinction. Without investigation, it seems to appear; with investigation, the truth cannot be found. Now, I finally see cause and effect, and after contemplating how to combine the two on one basis, I realize that dependent origination and emptiness are not different. I see that relying on cause to produce effect is not deceptive, and this very understanding brings about emptiness that does not need to rely on other understandings. The very logic of non-deceptive cause and effect proves the emptiness that is free from the extreme of existence, without relying on other signs. I have a deep understanding of non-deceptive cause and effect, and from it arises a state of non-attachment that abandons all fixations.

There also appeared phenomena similar to piling up words without any difference, and there was still no definite understanding. Now I think in my heart that if we don't understand, then we are no different from the master. Thinking that the master might not have understood either, I went to ask. The master said, 'We understand, but some details are not very clear.' Therefore, regarding the most ultimate key points of view, as well as the most subtle aspects of behavior, and whether one deviates on the path of practice, as well as the most difficult key points of Tantra 14-6-2b and Sutra, etc., those places where I had previously been confused and had not found answers, by observing how the master argued with reason, the doubts in the depths of my heart were completely eliminated, and firm confidence arose. According to this master's view, the current teaching and listening to the Dharma and meditation practice are all regarded as teaching and listening to the Dharma. In general, although there are many types of Dharma, there are only three that can become the cause of liberation: renunciation, Bodhicitta, and pure view. Now, not to mention generating experience of these three, it is rare to have a pure understanding of these three. Understanding the first two cannot plant the seeds of liberation, but the latter is powerful and can plant them. If the first two are not just understanding, but generate an experience that completely changes the mind, then the seeds of liberation can be planted. That is to say, through strong effort, keeping the object of focus in mind, and changing the mind through the power of habituation, thereby generating a deliberate experience, this can plant the seeds of liberation, but it has not yet reached the right path. Merely remembering the happiness of samsara and sentient beings can continuously integrate renunciation and Bodhicitta into the mind, thereby abiding on the small accumulation path. Continuously remembering the faults of samsara and the benefits of liberation, not allowing the mind to indulge in the appearance of samsara, diligently controlling it, and focusing the mind on the benefits of liberation, before generating the experience of renunciation, even if one practices generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, etc., 14-6-3a they will never become the cause of liberation. Therefore, those who want to attain liberation must first put aside all the so-called profound instructions and practice the contemplation of renunciation. Those who practice Mahayana must constantly remember the faults of self-interest and the merits of benefiting others. Before generating the experience of Bodhicitta, no matter what they do, it will not become the right path. Otherwise, the roots of virtue will be controlled by the mind of self-interest, and will eventually only become the cause of inferior Bodhi. For example, remembering renunciation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
