Furthermore, having committed countless transgressions, both fundamental and minor, I, (name), confess and admit these faults before all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas residing in the ten directions, and before the Sangha of Bodhisattvas, headed by the Khenpo (Upadhyaya, Preceptor) Bodhisattva, without concealing anything. By confessing and admitting, I shall abide in happiness; if I do not confess and admit, I shall not abide in happiness.’ After repeating this three times, the Karma Master (the Acharya giving the vows) asks: ‘Do you recognize these faults? Will you keep the vows in the future?’ The recipient replies: ‘I recognize these faults, and if I knowingly commit them, I will accept the punishment with great respect, as prescribed by the Dharma and the Vinaya.’ This question and answer are repeated three times. Furthermore, the method of atoning for the transgressions of a Bodhisattva is as follows: First, seek forgiveness as before, and then say: ‘I, (name), from the root of the transgressions committed—as mentioned before—have violated the precepts that contradict the Bodhisattva vows. I should have strived to benefit others in terms of Dharma and material possessions, but I did not strive; I harbored resentment and discrimination towards the help given and harm caused by others; I generated thoughts of attachment, hatred, and indifference with biased and sectarian views; I did not associate with virtuous friends; I did not listen to and contemplate the profound and vast Dharma treasures of the Bodhisattvas; when enjoying food, clothing, shelter, etc., I did not hold it with the intention of benefiting others; when practicing the six Paramitas such as generosity, I did not hold it with Bodhicitta; furthermore, I did not abandon the four black Dharmas that cause the decline of Bodhicitta, nor did I cultivate the four white Dharmas that increase Bodhicitta; I did not strive to accomplish the benefit and happiness of others and to eliminate their suffering; I do not offer to the Three Jewels; I follow desires; I do not respect elders; I do not answer questions; I do not treat guests as my own; I do not accept gold and other wealth; I do not give to those who desire Dharma; I abandon those who are immoral; I do not teach to inspire faith in others; I do little for the benefit of sentient beings; I am without compassion; I accept wrong livelihood; I am arrogant and conceited, etc.; I think of wandering alone in Samsara; I do not abandon ill repute; I am with afflictions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
