If it is not a human body with the six elements, it cannot be a vessel for the four empowerments, because there is no corresponding cause. Similarly, for those who have the eighteen leisures and endowments, the body is also the most important. For example, if a newborn baby has neither eyes nor ears, then he cannot see or hear anything. Therefore, he cannot accomplish even a little of the affairs of Dharma and the world, so the body is also the most important. Similarly, it is said that language is also the most important, because in order to indicate what to accept and reject, it is necessary to have a language that has complete characteristics, can speak, and can understand the meaning. Without these, the mere sounds of animals are useless. Body, speech, and mind arise in dependence on each other. They depend on the chest, throat, tongue, teeth, etc. of the body, and are initiated by the mind. Relying on the horse of wind, and depending on the combination of language and letters, all meanings of words can arise, so language is the most important. If there is no mind, that is, the eight consciousnesses and the fifty-one mental factors, then it is a corpse. The one who is first born in samsara is the mind. Body and speech are the objects of taking and abandoning. Due to the delusion of ignorance of self-grasping, it appears. Clinging to what appears. Due to clinging, strong clinging to reality arises, thus clinging to self and others, or clinging to me and mine, etc., just like a herdsman and livestock clinging to me and mine. In general, samsara has no end. Life has no end. Delusion has no end, and from beginningless time until today, we have been wandering in this samsara. In that situation, that person who wanders, in the state of impure samsara, there is no mind that does not have the three, body, speech, and mind, complete. In the place where one wanders, there are six abodes of the six realms of samsara, so the bodies are also different. The body of the desire realm is a coarse body of flesh and blood. In the form realm, it is a pure body of light. In the formless realm, according to the Mahayana view, there is a body of meditative thought. Relying on the collection of body, speech, and mind, karma is accumulated. Due to the effect of karma, one is born in the three realms of samsara, otherwise, if karma is not accumulated, it is impossible for the mind alone to be born in samsara. For example, if karma is not accumulated, the mind alone is like being led by a fishhook in front, or like a deer chased by a hunting dog behind.

There is absolutely no creator; only karma acts. The world is made by karma and transformed by karma. Karma is like a painter, creating everything. Thus, contaminated karma has three types: virtuous, non-virtuous, and unwavering karma. Whatever you accomplish, you must rely on the assembly of body, speech, and mind. You cannot achieve it with mind alone. In the pure Buddha-fields, there is no such thing as a mind alone that lacks the three aspects of body, speech, and mind. Therefore, the three—body, speech, and mind—are like a three-legged cauldron, making it difficult to discern which is primary. However, from the Sutras to the Tantras, it is said that the mind is the most important. So, just opening a door for investigation, now each of you should examine and investigate carefully. If you do not generate a deep and unwavering conviction that does not contradict the scriptures, reasoning, and instructions, then it is said to be an impure appearance. Third, examining the three places of arising, dwelling, and going. Although there are many sayings from the lineage of vidyadharas of the past, such as Trekchö Yebab Sorzhak and its Yangyik, here I will explain according to what Dodrupchen Rinpoche said to Nyagla Rinpoche. All dharmas are to be gathered into two: object and subject. For example, just as all knowable dharmas are gathered into the two truths and taught, so all objects are gathered into the three places of arising, dwelling, and going. All subjects are gathered into the three: the one who arises, the one who dwells, and the one who goes. First, when examining the place of arising, it is necessary to connect it to a basis. For example, when focusing on a pillar in front of you, when the eye-consciousness grasping the pillar has the first instant of thinking, "It is a pillar," thinking, "Did this consciousness of mine arise from the pillar or not?" At that time, without examining the subject, you should examine the object. The pillar's own essence is empty from the beginning, yet appearance is unceasing, and while appearing, its essence is empty from the beginning, abiding in the nature of being free from elaboration. That is, emptiness without losing the aspect of appearance, and appearance without losing the aspect of emptiness; you must be certain of the nature of the union of appearance and emptiness. Others think that the pillar is not empty by its own essence, but that the pillar is empty by being truly established. Thus, true establishment is impossible in the knowable, and in the face of examining ultimate truth, the two—not being empty—are unrelated to the union of appearance and emptiness, means and what arises from means, and the nature of phenomena and phenomena. True establishment is impossible in the knowable.
