Secondly, through practice and so on, train to dissolve whatever thoughts arise into the expanse of awareness. Finally, it is said that all minds and mental events will appear as the nature of awareness. In short, for a beginner, it is necessary to distinguish the clear light awareness from among the eight aggregates of consciousness, just as one separates fat from meat or extracts gold from soil, one must recognize it. Why is this necessary? Because in the continuum of a single individual, the eight aggregates of consciousness, clear light, and the ninth consciousness arise simultaneously. Clear light is actually nakedly present in the consciousness stream of all sentient beings, but it is not recognized. Although there are times when the various aspects of the mind cease to function, this is usually not noticed, such as in states of sleep and fainting. In the sutra path itself, among the three types of Bodhisattvas—superior, middling, and inferior—even a Bodhisattva of superior faculty, after accumulating merit for countless great eons and meditating on the general meaning of emptiness, the object of objective consciousness, at the end, when realizing the truth of the Dharma nature on the first bhumi, directly realizes emptiness in such a way that the object and the subject are indistinguishable. Thus, in the state of meditative equipoise of the noble ones, the eight aggregates cease, and wisdom appears nakedly. Even at that time, in the post-meditation state, until one reaches the three pure lands, the alaya and the five sense consciousnesses, etc., do not cease. In the Anuttarayoga Tantra, when practicing the complete stage with signs, by striking the vital points of the three—channels, drops, and winds—when the example wisdom arises in the face of the mind consciousness, even if other consciousnesses cease, there are times when only the mind consciousness or the alaya consciousness does not cease. In the case of the Mahamudra Sutra system, it is taught how the defilements of the mind, which are to be abandoned, are gradually purified through the stages of the ten bhumis, etc., thereby realizing wisdom. The Mahamudra Tantra system is the same as the above-mentioned tantric path. In the case of the Mahamudra Heart Essence tradition and Dzogchen, the mind, that is, the eight aggregates of consciousness." } ] ============================================================
