English version After visiting Lingyin (temple name) Temple, (Zen Master Puming, styled 𠁼yuan) paid respects to the Zen master of Lingyin Temple, and they were of one mind. He was then appointed as the second seat. Later, he went to Jiao Mountain (mountain name) in Jingkou to preside over the temple. Following that, he built Wanshan (place name). During an assembly, he held his staff horizontally and said, 'Ling Mountain (place name, referring to where the Buddha preached) talks about moon gazing, spreading falsehoods; Caoxi (place name, where the Sixth Patriarch Huineng propagated the Dharma) points to the moon, compounding mistakes. The old monks of the world are like buying cinnabar at a high price, only following evil. A strike at Xinhai Gate (place name) plunges the world into darkness. To make the sages of the past and future completely break free from the confines of understanding. If this is not yet possible, then turn the cloud head and meet with everyone elsewhere.' After speaking, he threw down his staff and left the seat. A monk asked, 'What is Buddha?' The Zen master said, 'Meng Balang Han.' The monk bowed. The Zen master said, 'Make up for clumsiness with diligence.' Dharma successor of Zen Master Langshan Yu Zen Master Puming, styled 𠁼yuan, of Jiaxing During an assembly, a monk asked, 'What is the past mind?' The Zen master said, 'Zhao Zhou's (Zen master's name) robe weighs seven pounds.' He then asked, 'What is the future mind?' The Zen master said, 'Riding a bull on a bull, laughing to death.' He further asked, 'What is the present mind?' The Zen master said, 'No need to hang red lanterns under the sun.' He then asked, 'Among the three minds, which mind can become Buddha?' The Zen master said, 'Adding more grievances to the blue sky.' Then he said, 'There is no Dharma before the eyes, the meaning is in the present. When hungry, eat; when sleepy, sleep.' He clapped the Zen bed and said, 'Three mouths cross the river, fish jump the net; Kunlun (mountain name) rides an elephant, egret pulls.' During a small assembly on his birthday, Zen Practitioner Yuan said, 'Do you remember when you came out of your mother's womb, there was a public case that has not been mentioned. Today, it is a rare opportunity, so I might as well tell you all.' After a long pause, he said, 'The Yellow River clears once every three thousand years.' When Puming (temple name) retired from the abbotship and gave a Dharma talk, he said, 'The place where a Daoist lives originally has no fixed direction. Moving like floating clouds, still like the spirit of the valley. Clouds follow the dragon, wind follows the tiger, taking charge everywhere. When encountering opportunities, follow them. Sometimes, hiding names and traces on the top of a solitary peak; sometimes, arguing right and wrong at the crossroads. Being a guest, always be a guest; being a host, always be a host. Free from the body, without reliance, free everywhere. Do you know where this mountain monk finds joy?' After speaking, he walked out with his staff. English version: Small Dharma talk. Being awake is not within understanding. Where is the drowsiness of a sleepy person? Apart from these two paths, where should one settle down and establish their life? If it is said that sleep and wakefulness are not different, there is still no basis to rely on. Brothers, do you understand? Deep in the forest, the yellow birds eagerly seek companions; on the green waters, the gulls sleep beside their mothers. End of Retreat Small Dharma Talk. Holding onto the essential pass, not allowing the passage of ordinary beings or sages. Releasing a thread of opportunity, allowing you to roam freely. Brothers, is it better to hold on or to release? The fragrance of plum blossoms penetrates the bones, who will recommend it? Again, it follows the spring breeze towards the lotus pond. Successor of Zen Master Guyan Feng Zen Master Zichang Ying of Bao'en Temple in Huzhou Small Dharma Talk. Neither mind nor Buddha, a dot on the perfect circle. Mind is Buddha, using yellow leaves to stop crying. Yangqi's (杨岐) donkey, Zihu's (子湖) dog, the four categories and three mysteries, donkey's foot and Buddha's hand. This group of people, if they come to Bao'en Temple, sweeping the floor and carrying manure would be useless. Looking at the assembly, the Zen master asked, 'Is there still a patriarch?' Successor of Zen Master Shizhou Ying Zen Master Dayi of Gulin Temple in Tongcheng Small Dharma Talk. The spring breeze is gentle and warm, the days are long and the nights are short. The green mountains are still green, and the universe continues to turn. The staff in this old monk's hand, has it ever been spared from ancient times to the present? I respectfully tell those who practice Zen, the Dao is not far from people, but people themselves are far from the Dao. Successor of Zen Master Yunfeng Shou Zen Master Nanyuan Xin of Xifang Temple in Yangzhou Sermon on the Holy Day. The four classes of people live in peace, and all officials fulfill their duties. Together, they strike the earth to praise the prosperous age, and pat their bellies to sing of the kingly way of governance. To cultivate a prosperous age, there is no better time than this. We, the Shramana disciples of Shakyamuni, use precepts to restrain our minds, use wisdom to cultivate ourselves, and use precepts to cultivate our bodies. Joining the Bao She (保社), our traces drift across the lakes and seas, pursuing clouds and water, lodging in the misty mountains. We follow the same teachings and enjoy the same benefits. But how should we repay the kindness of the king and the kindness of the Buddha? Raising the ruyi (如意) scepter, he said, 'If you seek it on the way, you will still argue about half a month's journey.' Small Dharma Talk. Advancing is insufficient, retreating is still lenient. Only knowing the taste of salt, how can one know the sourness of vinegar? In the deep of night, the candle goes out, there is nothing else to do, and I read idle books under the moonlight. Showing the assembly. He quoted the words of Ancestor Xiu of Qingshan. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English version: Virtuous and knowledgeable friends from all directions, your insight is profound, and your merit and virtue are great. The monasteries and forests where you reside are well-ordered, and the food and drink are pure. It can be said that you are difficult to meet but easy to become close to. This old monk, my worldly connections are shallow. I clear the land and cultivate it, and my tea and meals are simple and coarse. It can be said that I am easy to meet but difficult to become close to. The master said, 'The Qingshan (Qingshan Monastery) of the past, and the Fengsheng (Fengsheng Monastery) of today, are in the same pit, and the soil is no different.' So, how should we understand this phrase 'neither difficult nor easy'? In a snap of the fingers, one transcends countless sages; a raised eyebrow is not the immediate opportunity before us. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
