Commentary on the Twenty-One Taras Praise Commentary on the Twenty-One Taras Praise Commentary on the Twenty-One Taras Praise - Homage Namo Lokeshvaraya. Tara, who liberates all beings from samsara. I respectfully prostrate to her. Briefly explain the meaning of the praise's tantra. May all obstacles be pacified. This tantra belongs to the Anuttarayoga, and even more so, it is a Yogini Tantra. Among the six classes, it belongs to the Vajra Hayagriva, the king of horses. Furthermore, it is the tantra of the Bhagavati Tara, the sovereign mother of the wheel of lineage. This praise is also considered a complete tantra. In the first verse, "Homage to Tara, Swift Heroine," etc., the word "Homage" appears first, which is the basis for stating and initiating the topic, and the following verses should also be understood in the same way. To whom do we pay homage? To the Bhagavati Tara. What are her specific qualities? With great compassion, without any specific aim, she swiftly benefits sentient beings, saving them from all fears such as fire. The Heroine is the unobstructed activity of power and might. In a single instant, her wisdom eye, like lightning, moves swiftly, seeing all knowable things. Therefore, she is called Tara, meaning the one who has the activity of liberating all sentient beings from samsara. Thus, wisdom, compassion, ability, and activity, these alone can represent all the immeasurable qualities. Therefore, it should be known that these two lines are a summary of all the essential points. This goddess, who possesses such qualities, is the lotus of the face of Avalokiteshvara, the protector of the three realms, emanating from billions of lotus stamens. The translator Namkha Sangpo translated this as: "Born from the lotus face of the protector of the three realms, appearing from millions of petals." This translation is easier to understand. It is not a literal translation, but rather says that the protector of the three realms is the Dharmakaya, and what arises from it is the Rupakaya. The second verse, "Homage to the Autumn Moon," etc., the autumn moon is full, like the face of hundreds of thousands of full moons stacked together...

O Mother, beautiful and clear like the stars! The multitude of stars gather, like a constellation or separated into many clusters, radiating light, your body shines brightly. Your body color is white and clear, pleasing to the mind, emitting a dazzling white light. The secret meaning is that the treasure of Bodhicitta, like the autumn moon, is accumulated uninterruptedly from the navel to the crown of the head, and all the subtle places are filled with joy, like the stars. Third verse, Homage to golden blue lotus etc. Your hands are adorned with blue aquatic lotus flowers with golden stems, you are the goddess holding the lotus, you are pleased with the six perfections of generosity, diligence, asceticism i.e. discipline, tranquility i.e. wisdom, patience and meditation. You, Tara, your realm of activity is the daytime, and you are the woman who practices this path. The secret meaning is that the aquatic lotus is the secret lotus, and the meaning of the hand is the vajra, the two are combined, symbolizing the irreversible discipline and asceticism, as well as the blissful meditation, the wisdom that silences the discriminating mind by realizing emptiness, and the diligence that does not deviate from this path, and the patience that is indifferent to all joys and sorrows, and the generosity of abandoning self-grasping. This shows the practice of mantra. Fourth verse, Homage to the Tathagata etc. From the crown of the Tathagata Buddha Vairochana, arises the wisdom incarnation of the mantra, which has infinite benefits and can overcome all adversities. Virtuous Mother, you possess and enjoy it. You act with the mantras of countless sentient beings, and you have obtained all ten perfections. The sons of the Buddhas, the lords of the ten bhumis, also respectfully rely on and offer to you. The profound meaning is that the joy of the progressive and regressive stages is, as the "Auspicious Tantra" says: "The Tathagata thus departs, and thus returns again." Meaning the Tathagata. The collection of channels and winds merges into the crown, thereby overcoming the infinite objects to be abandoned. The ten perfections, that is, the ten winds are transformed into the path. The Buddha-son Bodhisattva, that is, the sense organs such as the eyes are also transformed into wisdom.
