It is like being arrogant and conceited. Even if we assume it to be true, considering the deeds of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, your actions are of no use at all. There is also no reason for the benefit of others. Temporary prosperity and clamor are no different from the situation of a sinful person going to hell. Therefore, one needs to remind oneself. Also, if one becomes tired and lazy from practicing and benefiting others, one should think like this: The Buddhas and their retinues have countless times given away their bodies and kingdoms for the sake of others. For the sake of samadhi, they stood on one foot and remained for eighty thousand years, etc. With your abilities, how can you attain enlightenment? For the sake of food, clothing, wealth, and idle talk, you can do anything, but for the sake of Dharma, you cannot even endure a little hardship. Is this the kind of virtue you have? Remember this. Here it is said: If you are too sad, it is depression. Even that is not helpful, cherish joy. Having obtained a human body and encountered the sacred Dharma, and being cared for by the Guru, what could be happier than this? If you are too happy, it is distraction and wildness. Suppress it by meditating on renunciation. If you become discouraged, you should praise yourself like this: If you practice properly, even with the body of an animal, you will surely enter the path of perfect enlightenment. Why can't I? Think like that. If arrogance arises, honestly reflect on your own situation, and it will be pacified. All things are of the nature of emptiness, without good or bad, high or low, happiness or suffering, existence or non-existence. If you remain equally in the sphere free from elaboration, all obstacles and faults will be naturally liberated. This was privately instructed by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo Tāranātha. May this wonderful sacred Dharma enter your heart. May the king who holds the name of Shakya also surely bless you. In the vast eastern kingdom, may the two benefits be perfectly accomplished, and may you quickly rely on the Guru and contribute to the Dharma! Mangalam! The order of key reminders for practice.
