7) The Precepts of Mind Training 7) The Precepts of Mind Training. All yogas should be done with one intention. That is, the yoga of food, the yoga of clothing, the yoga of sleeping, the yoga of sitting, etc., all should be done with the sole intention of benefiting others. All adversities should be transformed with one method. That is, when practicing, if there are many illnesses, verbal abuse, hatred from others, or if afflictions increase during meditation, these are all adversities to practice. For all these adversities, the only method of transformation is: on this unpleasant event, think that all beings' unpleasantness and suffering are gathered here. Only practice the transformation of exchanging self and others. At the beginning and the end, there are two things to do. That is, in the morning, strongly aspire to not be stained by the defilements of wrongdoing today. In the evening, check whether the day has been stained. If there has been no stain, then cultivate joy. If there has been a stain, then confess and vow not to repeat it. During the day, also repeatedly refresh your memory. Whatever of the two arises, endure it. That is, whatever arises, whether it is suffering, unpleasantness, or decline, think that it is due to the power of past karma, and do not complain or be discouraged. Purify all the sins and sufferings of others, and strive to find ways to purify obscurations. Endure the pressure of suffering. When there is happiness and abundance, do not be careless or indifferent, but use wealth for good deeds, transform power into virtuous actions, and pray that all beings may have happiness. Protect the two by staking your life. That is, protect all the common Dharma precepts, as well as the necessary precepts of mind training. Whatever you do, do not be bound by thoughts of self-interest. You should train in the three difficulties. That is, it is difficult to recognize afflictions at first, so you should know that it is an affliction as soon as it arises. It is difficult to counteract in the middle, so you should abandon it immediately as soon as it arises. It is difficult to cut off the continuity in the end, so you should make a firm determination that you will never let it arise again. Adjust the three main causes. That is, meeting a noble lama, making your own mind workable, and having favorable conditions such as food and clothing. If you yourself have these three main factors for generating virtue, then pray that all beings may also have them.

Pray. If it is incomplete, then on that very incompleteness, gather all the incompleteness of those three for all sentient beings, and pray that they may all be complete with those three. Meditate on the three without degeneration: unwavering devotion to the lama, unwavering warmth in practicing mind training, and learning the precepts of the three vows without degeneration. Possess the three that are inseparable. That is, may body, speech, and mind never be separated from virtue at any time. Train without partiality towards objects. Cherish all with pervasiveness and depth. That is, towards objects, all sentient beings, and the four elements, etc., good and bad, let the mind pervade, and not just in words, but truly master it from the depths of the heart. Always meditate on all arrangements. That is, the most difficult objects for mind training are hateful enemies, harmful obstacles, especially those who repay kindness with harm, those who act perversely, focus primarily on training the mind towards them. Do not rely on any other conditions. That is, whether conditions are good or bad, whether resources are scarce or abundant, whether people are kind or unkind, it doesn't matter, train the mind, do not depend on others. Now, the most important thing is to practice. That is, now, the next life is more important than this life, and liberation from samsara is even more important. More important than self-interest is benefiting others, and more important than talking is doing. And more important than examining from the perspective of the learned Pandit's scriptures and reasoning, is to persistently meditate on the lama's instructions. Do not reverse it, that is, unable to endure the suffering of practicing Dharma, yet cultivating patience to conquer enemies and protect relatives, this is reversed patience. Unwilling to practice pure Dharma, yet craving the wealth of this life, this is reversed craving. Without experiencing the taste of practicing Dharma through hearing, contemplation, and meditation, yet tasting the pleasures of worldly enjoyment, this is reversed tasting. Not having compassion for those who commit evil, yet having compassion for those who practice austerities for the sake of Dharma, this is reversed compassion. Not applying it to worldly matters related to oneself, but applying it to the pursuit of fame in this life, this is reversed effort. Not cultivating joy in the happiness of samsara and nirvana, and in doing good, but rejoicing when enemies suffer, this is reversed rejoicing, these six should be abandoned. Do not alternate, that is, Dharma
