If it is said that adding the view of permanence to the nature of transcendence, it will become the view of permanence, and become an incorrect view. Shakya, Maitreya, and Asanga agree. After that, as it is said below, there is nothing to be removed from this, and there is nothing to be established. Because the nature of samsara and nirvana is realized to be without addition or subtraction, and the nature of self-existent permanence is equality, it is the Dharmakaya. Therefore, the Dharmakaya with two purities is established as the other shore beyond permanence, which is the meaning. In this way, the earlier and later sutras do not contradict each other, and they are in accordance with the scriptures. If you think that the earlier and later commentaries do not contradict each other, and that combining the nature of samsara and nirvana is your own knowledge, then it is not. Asanga's commentary says: The gate of the Dharmadhatu, by this, it is truly established that samsara itself is nirvana. So, do you think that the combination of addition and subtraction is self-knowledge? It is not, the commentary says: The impermanence of samsara does not decrease, and the permanence of nirvana does not increase, which is established by this. This is the well-spoken wish-fulfilling jewel that the many wise teachers of the snowy land have not found, and that I have found from the ocean of Asanga's teachings. It is said: The definitive meaning spoken by the Buddhas and their sons, the root lineage lamas have clarified, like the moon rising on the white ground, and again clarified by Manjushri Grags. This is the intermediate verse. Some also think that if the third turning of the wheel of Dharma is the ultimate definitive meaning, then what is the point of teaching the first and second turnings of the wheel of Dharma? It would be appropriate to teach the ultimate definitive meaning from the beginning. If it is thought that way, if one is able to be a vessel for teaching the ultimate, then the King of the Shakyas, who possesses skillful means and compassion, would not be stingy or secretive about the Dharma. Although he would very much like to teach, it is because one is not a vessel. The reason for this is that the Tathagatagarbha is permanent and stable, and is not an object of thought. Moreover, sentient beings have previously increased the habits of samsara, and they grasp impermanence as permanence, grasp suffering as happiness, and grasp selflessness as self. Because they have increased this power, as an antidote, all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, all contaminated phenomena are suffering, and all phenomena are selfless.

All evil deeds that transcend suffering are pacified. Isn't this how the first turning of the Dharma wheel is taught? Now, if you think that after teaching the first, it is reasonable to teach the ultimate third turning, that is still not suitable as a vessel for teaching the ultimate meaning. The reason for this is that even after teaching the first turning, although one realizes the selflessness of the individual, which is permanent, singular, and independent, one still grasps that the nature of fire is heat and the nature of water is moisture as being true even in the ultimate sense, and one does not realize the selflessness of phenomena. Similarly, one does not realize the selflessness of the grasping consciousness that grasps external objects such as forms. Therefore, these become obstacles to seeing the Tathagatagarbha. As an antidote to these, if all conventional phenomena are examined and analyzed, they are found to be non-existent. Isn't this how the second turning of the wheel, such as the profound Prajnaparamita, which is empty of inherent existence and does not think of anything or conceptualize anything, is turned? After that, although these conventional, temporary phenomena do not exist when examined and analyzed, the appearance does not cease without examination, and this is the conventional truth. And if the Tathagatagarbha, which is the naturally luminous mind, is examined and analyzed, it is found that there is nothing else other than this, and this is the ultimate truth of the ultimate meaning. Isn't this how the third turning of the wheel, which is endowed with excellent distinctions, is taught? It is said: Some speak without knowing, and some are seen to conceal the example even though they know. I have taught with only the intention of benefiting others, having realized it myself. May all the intelligent seekers of meaning be pleased. This is an intermediate verse. Some say: These words of yours seem very reasonable, and are similar to what the Victorious Ones and their heirs have said. But did the previous lamas also practice in this way? The Great Sage also repeatedly spoke well, as it is said in the Sutra on the Great Compassion of the Tathagatas: The Tathagatas also know the completely impure realms, and with words of impermanence, suffering, selflessness, and impurity, they cause beings who delight in samsara to become disgusted, and thus they cause them to enter the Vinaya of the Noble Ones. But the Tathagatas did not abandon their efforts with just that, and after that, they also taught emptiness and signlessness.
