This life-redemption effigy, in the past, when Master Padmasambhava subdued all the gods and demons of Tibet and brought peace to the kingdom, there remained one malicious demon who attacked the life force of all beings. At that time, a prince named Mukhyudzin fell ill and could not be cured no matter what was done. Then, the demon took the prince's life force. All the ministers consulted and asked Master Padmasambhava for advice. Master Padmasambhava said, 'This is the most malicious of all the gods and demons. Now, a life-redemption must be performed, and his merit must be distinguished.' Use divination; if the divination shows a god, offer a white god; if the divination shows a demon, offer a black demon. If the god's divination is strong, it can be redeemed; if the demon's divination is strong, it cannot be redeemed. The king divined, and the divination showed that it could be redeemed, so this life-redemption ritual was performed. Among them, the image of life force, the right foot, the life tree, the life lake, the life stone, five kinds of jewels, five kinds of colored silks, a white conch shell, a conch shell stone, a leaping antelope, coral, a white square life turquoise, and a Khenpa, that is, a Li plate or a Bal plate, put these life-force items into it, cover it with a bowl, and place it on a 'bre' (Tibetan unit of volume) of barley. The supreme truth is the command of the Three Jewels! There is nothing that does not obey the command of the Three Jewels! There is nothing that does not reside on the summit of Mount Meru! There is nothing that does not drink the water of the ocean! There is nothing that does not rely on the five elements! There is nothing that is not illuminated by the light of the sun and moon! Through the samadhi of me, the mantra holder, This patron's (yon bdag) soul is redeemed. Having redeemed this soul, this substitute is offered. In time and kalpas, There exists a god who protects. There exists a demon who harms. To distinguish between gods and demons, A white divine sheep is offered to the gods. The white divine sheep is raised by the gods, That divine sheep becomes large. A black demonic sheep is given to the demons, That demonic sheep becomes small. The large sheep is obtained by the gods, The small one is obtained by the demons. The gods are victorious, and the demons are defeated. Here, the discernment of truth is performed. Hey! For the white soul lamb, Adorned with wondrous silk fabrics. You are bestowed as the support of the soul. The right soul stake is the support of the soul, Place the soul bag on this soul stake. The white conch shell is the sheep of the soul, Place the soul bag on this conch shell. The white soul turquoise is the radiance of the soul, Place the soul bag on this soul turquoise. The purple leaping antelope is the support of the soul, Place the soul bag on this leaping antelope. The red coral is the blood of the soul, Place the soul bag on this coral. The white divine stone is the stone of the soul, Place the soul bag on this soul stone. The divine juniper tree is the tree of the soul, Place the soul bag on this juniper tree.
