The essence of perfect, deathless youth, Skillfully swirling on the mirror of the fortunate heart, The creator, the lama, the protector, Amitayus, Steadfastly dwells in the lotus lake of the Dharma wheel. From churning the ocean of a billion merits, The sun king of the three-fold vajra holder, All adorned with the garment of the ocean of a million activities, The all-pervading, venerable lama, Vajradhara. The treasury of the glorious abundance of all secrets, Enthroned as the king of spontaneous union, The supreme activity of great bliss, spontaneously accomplished, To the kind lama, greatly increasing, I prostrate. From the vast expanse of the protector Amitayus, The Ganges of the well-arrived wisdom dakini, The waters skillfully drunk and spat out by Padmasambhava, From the glorious Vajra, the lord of wealth, approached, The close lineage of oral instructions has come forth. Deeply absorbed in the ocean of the heart, The longevity instructions of the whispered lineage that comes from the venerable lama, I write, and request the Dharma protectors to grant permission. Now, in writing this close lineage longevity teaching, the lifeline of the immortal vajra, one must have faith and a reliable source, namely, the history and the instructions that come from it. First, in the western realm of Sukhavati, The dakini, Secret Wisdom, blessed by the Bhagavan, the protector Amitayus and Immeasurable Wisdom, possessing the sun and moon throne, umbrella, six ornaments, etc., named Sun and Moon Accomplishment, and also known as Karma Dakini, was requested for empowerment by the great master Padmasambhava. The dakini transformed the letter Hūṃ into nectar in her mouth. Outwardly, she is the nature of Amitabha, holding the empowerment of the knowledge of deathless life; inwardly, she is the nature of Arya Avalokiteśvara, the empowerment of the supreme accomplishment of the great mudra; secretly, she is the nature of glorious Hayagriva, the empowerment of enslaving gods and demons. Then, he gave this teaching to Omniscient Sonam Gyatso (Ocean of Merit) in the Sunlit Chamber of Drepung Monastery. Dampa (Holy One) heard this from Khonton Dorje Chang (Vajradhara), the great Paljor Lhundrup (Glorious Spontaneous Accomplishment), the master of all lineages. He transmitted it to many fortunate disciples, but most of them, except for a few with wisdom, did not maintain the oral tradition. In the past, there was no written record of this teaching, only oral transmission. In order to prevent this teaching from declining and to benefit others, it is now written down. Second, the instructions that come from this, including both accomplishing longevity for oneself and accepting disciples. First: Purify with the mantra of Padmantakrita. Purify with Svabhava. From emptiness, on top of a lotus, sun, and crossed Rudra, one instantly becomes the Wrathful Padma Hayagriva (Lotus Horse-Neck), holding a curved knife in the right hand and a skull cup of blood in the left. The horse head is green, neighing like a horse. Adorned with the eight charnel ground ornaments. Situated in the center of blazing wisdom fire. Banish obstacles and purify. From emptiness, from the syllable Om, appears a vast and immense jewel container, filled with clear and unobstructed Torma, distinguished by the five objects of desire. Recite Om Ah Hum three times to bless it. Recite Om Sarva Vighnan etc. three times and dedicate it. Hrih! Hosts of demons, obstacles, and spirits, come to this place! Take this Torma and go elsewhere! If you do not leave, the command of the Great Powerful One will destroy you into particles of dust! Banish obstacles with Sumbha etc. Above, below, and in all directions, without exception, filled with vajras and the flames of five-colored wrathful deities. Form a protective wheel-tent without any gaps, do not cross the boundary! Om Vajra Raksha Raksha Svaha! Perform refuge and bodhicitta as usual. Field of Merit: Visualize oneself as the Great Powerful One, dissolving into light, from which appears Amitayus (Boundless Life). From his heart, rays of light emanate. Invite the assembly of Amitayus deities, inseparable from the guru, into the space in front. Offer with Om Sarva Tathagata Argham... up to Shabda. Recite 'Who is the kind mother' and 'The guide of the world', prostrating, offering, and confessing etc. The field of merit dissolves into oneself.
