The Empowerment of Marici: Arrange the vase, torma, and other empowerment substances. The refuge, bodhicitta, and common practices have already been done this morning. In a single instant, perfect recollection arises, and the samaya and wisdom are indivisible. Visualize yourself, the deity in the vase, and the torma as Marici, with a yellow body adorned with silk and various jewels. The two hands hold a needle and thread respectively. The hair is in a topknot, adorned with various jewels. She sits in a playful posture on a golden pig. At her heart is a yellow 'Māṃ' syllable, surrounded by the root mantra, radiating light in all ten directions. From the fields of the ten directions, various forms of Marici, large and small, descend like rain, dissolving into the deity in front of you and in the vase. Recite: Oṃ Māricyāi Māṃ Svāhā as many times as possible, hundreds or thousands of times. Then offer: Arghaṃ, etc. By merely holding your name and remembering you, all unfavorable circumstances will be eliminated, and you will bestow worldly and transcendental glory. The essence of this deity belongs to the family of the Noble Mother, and when peaceful, she is the goddess Marici. In the past, when the gods and asuras were fighting, this goddess was born from the radiance of the gods. The goddess shook her golden hat, and from it arose billions of golden armors, so the gods were victorious over the asuras. The goddess was also appointed as the mistress of the wish-fulfilling tree, so she is known as the Tree Goddess Marici. Although her essence is a tenth-level bodhisattva, she appears in a worldly form, dwelling under the sorrowless tree in India, so she is swift and sharp like worldly things. The dharani and realization of Marici belong to the Action Tantra; what is taught in the Magical Net and other texts belongs to the Yoga Tantra; what is taught in the Vajra Tent belongs to the Unsurpassed Yoga Tantra; and what is taught in the Goddess Accomplishment Teaching Vision Tantra belongs to the Nyingma school. When residing in the grove of Jayanapara, he spoke to the monks: 'There is a goddess named Marici (Tibetan: ལྷ་མོ་འོད་ཟེར་ཅན་, Goddess of Light), who possesses immeasurable power and miraculous abilities. Knowing her name prevents one from being seized, bound, cut off, beheaded, or burned, and one will not fall into the hands of enemies.' The Vajra Tent also states: 'No thieves, therefore Marici.' In the Dharani and Realization, it is also said: 'Om Marici Svaha.' This supreme essence will surely achieve the supreme. It eliminates all plagues and all diseases. Through recitation and fire offerings, the Goddess of Light causes wealth to increase.' When practicing this, the signs are: dreaming of snakes, monkeys, mice, donkeys, horses, cows, elephants, buffaloes, bears, and dogs fighting each other, or feeling frightened oneself. In such cases, the mantra should be recited twice as much. Dreaming of crossing the ocean, residing on a mountain, encountering a young woman, or seeing the flame of a lamp increase and emit various fragrances, or seeing Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and the Goddess of Light—these are signs of accomplishment. Meditate that you exist between two moon discs formed from the letter A (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ) above and below. Or meditate that the sun and moon merge with each other, and pray: 'Goddess of Light, protect me!' This is in times of great fear. By placing a three-pointed vajra on top of a staff and a one-pointed vajra below, one can protect against the harm of thieves and others. In times of great fear, hold the staff in your hand and recite the six-syllable mantra to protect against all fears. Meditate that you are the six-armed or two-armed goddess in the middle of a golden pig. By making hand gestures and reciting the long mantra, even if you enter the enemy's camp, you will not be seized, bound, cut off, beheaded, or burned by fire, and you will not fall into the hands of enemies. Keeping this mantra in mind, hold your breath slowly, press your tongue against your palate. Remembering the goddess, recite the mantra, close your mouth, eyes, and tongue, recite twenty-one times with the thread at the end of your garment, tie twenty-one knots, and then wear it. Even on dangerous paths in the forest, you will be protected from the harm of thieves.' In short, in all the new and old Kadam and Terma traditions, it is said to be the supreme method for rescuing from enemies, thieves, and the dangers of the road. For those who travel far, it is a means of pacifying obstacles on the road and achieving success.
