Choswang Chakdor (Chos dbang phyag dor) Wrathful One, Practice Manual. ༄༅། །chos dbang gtum po'i bsnyen yig ut+pala'i chun po bzhugs so. (The Wrathful Practice Manual of Choswang, A Cluster of Utpala Flowers). The secret essence of all Buddhas' minds, Wielding the mighty vajra weapon of power, Proclaiming the fearless roar of the lion of selflessness, I prostrate and briefly explain the method of practice. The glorious Vajrapani (Phyag na rdo rje) has many sadhanas spoken in the New and Old Secret Mantras, the Kama (bka') and Terma (gter ma) traditions, and the upper and lower tantric divisions. Among them, the practice manual retrieved by the sovereign emanation Choswang Rinpoche (chos dbang rin po che) from Lhodrak Namkha Chen (lho brag gnam skas can), one of the eighteen scattered practice texts, is the practice of the Wrathful Lion's Roar (gtum po seng ge'i sgra sgrog) Flame Garland, which practices Vajrapani (Phyag na rdo rje) and Padmasambhava (o rgyan chen po) as inseparable. The method of accomplishment is as follows: If one prefers a slightly detailed approach, one can draw a mandala with colored powders or paint it on cloth. The mandala's doors, corners, horse faces, lotuses, charnel grounds, vajra fences, and fire mountains should follow the general early translation (snga 'gyur gter ma) wrathful mandala. The deity's abode is a blue triangular space with ten spokes and inner and outer courtyards. Alternatively, one can arrange tormas (tshom bu) on a mandala plate according to the number of deities, with the central sadhana torma and the general offering torma (dpal bshos) placed on a black cloth umbrella on a table. One can also set up separate offering tormas, or just use the sadhana torma, which possesses the three qualities of pacifying, increasing, and wrathful. Prepare the necessary items such as offerings, rakta, daily offerings, preliminary tormas, and tsok substances. Begin the practice on the evening of the tenth day of the waxing or waning moon, or on an auspicious day according to astrological calculations. First, perform the self-generation ritual, either in detail or briefly, reciting the hundred-syllable mantra as a preliminary. Then, recite the Sumba (sumbha) mantra and bless mustard seeds. If one has the ability and knowledge, one can throw the three portions of the torma from either the New or Old traditions. If one is not familiar, it is okay not to throw the three portions. After blessing the exorcism torma, dedicate it according to the ritual. Finally, visualize fierce mantras, weapons, and flames, and dispel obstacles with intense focus. One can establish the boundary according to the Eight Commands Secret Gathering (bka' brgyad gsang ba yongs rdzogs), or as if Guru Rinpoche is one, or according to other terma rituals. Meditate diligently on the protective wheel according to the general ritual, and stabilize it with the mantra of Vajrakrodha (badzra kro d+hi). Not fixating on the object to be protected or the protector, and resting the mind in the natural state, is the stage of cutting off boundaries. The main practice can be divided into four or two sessions, or as desired. For example, in the first session, recite the refuge and bodhicitta prayers according to the ritual: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
