The Supplementary Explanation 'Clear Seeing' to the Instructions on the Great Seal of Equality, the Rosary of Skulls of Ratna, from the Five Red Instructions on the Union of the Quintessence of Mind Practice, TD200 of the Great Treasury of Termas. The Mind Practice of Ra Ling. Practical Instructions. All things are equal, the Dharmakaya is like the sky, pure. Self-born, self-illuminating Lama Padmasambhava. Unmoving equality, Ratna Thötreng Tsal. To the supreme Lama who appears according to what is to be tamed, I bow down. Instructions on the Great Seal of Equality: Do not be mistaken about the key points of meditation, ask the Lama and practice them. Meditate on the Great Seal of Tögal and Trekchö of the Completion Stage. First, the Lama should gradually guide the beginner according to the student's mental capacity, introduce the co-emergent to the intermediate student as it arises, and introduce it to the superior student all at once. In this way, the Lama should gradually guide the student according to their intelligence. In a secluded place, the student should sit in front of the teacher in the seven-point posture of Vairocana. Investigate the origin of the mind, cutting off the three realms of existence: 'Where does this mind that remembers various things come from? How does it abide now? Where does it go later?' If, after investigating, it is clear and empty without coming from anywhere, abiding in any way, or going anywhere, then introduce self-appearance as emptiness. First, meditate on calm abiding with support: Place any object of focus in front of you, such as a piece of wood or a pebble. Without moving your eyes, cut off the movement of the mind and place it on the object. Abide there, without scattering elsewhere, abide in clarity and emptiness. If there is sound in the ears or other movements, cut off the root of the movement and place it on that, and practice as before. On whatever arises, the body does not feel anything, but remains upright and unfeeling. Then, the Lama and the student together say the forceful syllable 'PHAṬ (藏文:ཕཊཿ,梵文天城体:फट्,梵文罗马拟音:phaṭ,汉语字面意思:发)', destroying the attachment to the place and experience, and letting it arise naturally. If clarity and emptiness appear, then meditate for a short time and many times. Then, in your heart, visualize a small mirror-like drop of light. In the center of that, visualize a bean-sized drop of light radiating, and focus your mind on that. Meditate single-pointedly for about seven weeks. Then, hold it without focusing on anything. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Upon whatever arises, without thinking anything, in a state free from the mind that thinks, rest in your own empty ground. At that time, thoughts flow like a gentle breeze, without thinking 'is' or 'is not,' in the experience of clear emptiness, without clinging, direct your gaze towards the sky in front, blend the dharmadhatu and awareness, and meditate by resting firmly in the state of awareness's primordial purity. Having established it in this way, it rests naturally, and all thoughts and memories naturally subside, and the mind rests in a clear, empty, inexpressible state, which is the nature of the mind and the actual basis of meditation. On top of that, the introduction to Lhagthong (Vipassanā): like ice melting into water, like waves arising on the ocean, resting on whatever arises, clear emptiness remains inexpressible. As the Terzhung Dorje (Treasure Text Vajra) says: 'Whatever arises is empty, clear and bright, inexpressible,' after that, no matter how thoughts appear, do not analyze them, do not stop them, but meditate in a clear and empty state, in the clarity of your own nature. At that time, from the state of non-grasping, the radiance does not cease, and in the absence of objects, it appears clearly. This is called the nature of Lhagthong.' As it is said, in the clear, empty, non-grasping state of no meditation, nothing to meditate on, and no meditator, rest in the inexpressible state of clear and bright awareness, without clinging to it with memory, and do not fall into the thought that 'this is emptiness.' Do not cling to 'this is meditation,' but rest naturally in the clarity of your own nature, without grasping. In the beginning, resting on the moment of awareness, everything that arises remains clear, empty, and without grasping, which is said to be the union of Shamatha and Vipassanā. In this way, if you recognize the nature of reality, then the methods for removing obstacles and increasing merit are clearly stated in the essential instructions and the teachings for removing obstacles. In this way, in whatever arises, be without clinging, and cultivate freedom from all extremes of elaboration. In the experience of bliss, clarity, and non-thought, without the pride of being a meditator, the error of clinging to permanence is cut off. Realizing that your own awareness is empty and clear, free from edges and center, and without clinging, the extreme of nihilism is eliminated. Understanding that the nature of reality is empty, its essence is clear, free from clinging and thoughts, and resting naturally in the nature of freedom from extremes, seeing the essence in its own place, the error of both extremes is cut off.' As the Terzhung Dorje says: 'Such meditation is the flawless intention of the Buddha.' As it is said. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
