Meditate on the Clear Light during sleep. Without interruption by other thoughts, focus awareness on the bindu (Tibetan: ཐིག་ལེ, Sanskrit Devanagari: बिंदु, Sanskrit Romanization: bindu, Literal Meaning: drop/point), and then fall asleep, so that you will be seized by it. If you are not seized by it, then pray and maintain the body posture as before. Visualize the guru Vajrasattva (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་དཔའ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्रसत्त्व, Sanskrit Romanization: Vajrasattva, Literal Meaning: Diamond Being) in your heart, vividly colored. Visualize his light illuminating everything as before. Focus your mind on this, and then fall asleep, so that you will be seized by it. If you are still not seized by it, then as before, visualize the luminous guru in your heart, and in the heart of the guru, visualize a white bindu the size of a pea, whose light illuminates all realms of the universe, holding all phenomena as the nature of the guru, in the state of Clear Light. By practicing in this way, as it says in the text itself: 'Thick Clear Light is dreamless, and thoughts naturally cease.' 'Thin Clear Light is clear, with all realms, dwellings, retinues, and possessions appearing unobstructed.' Thus it is said to appear. If the above methods are still ineffective, then according to the guru's instructions, explain in more detail: Reduce sleep during the day, dividing it into two or three naps. When feeling drowsy, splash water on the face to avoid falling asleep. Then, when inevitably falling asleep, at noon, rely on nutritious foods such as yogurt and soup. Sit on the bed, straighten the body, and tie the meditation belt as before. Pray as before. Visualize the guru in your heart. As you fall asleep, visualize the guru dissolving into light and becoming inseparable from your own mind, resting in the state of Trekchö and Kadag. As the buzzing in the ears and the appearance of objects gradually fade, maintain awareness without distraction, so that you will be seized by it. The nature of Clear Light is awareness that is self-luminous, non-conceptual, free from elaboration, naked, like a clear sky. If you recognize this, there will be signs such as fellow practitioners observing beforehand that you do not snore in your sleep, and do not drool or have nasal discharge, and that your face has a smile and radiance. This is a sign of seizing the Clear Light, so stop interfering. If you have not seized it, there will be signs such as the head involuntarily swaying, snoring, making loud noises, the mouth twisting, and drool or nasal discharge appearing. This is a sign of not seizing it, so wake him up, and then pray as before, and as before, rest in the Clear Light and let him fall asleep. Immediately afterwards, the fellow practitioner puts his mouth to his ear and whispers his name, saying, 'Do not be distracted in sleep, seize the Clear Light!' Repeat three times, gradually decreasing the volume. If this is still ineffective, repeat the above steps again and again until you are seized by it. The sign of dreamlessness is as mentioned earlier in the treasure text. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The benefit of practicing in this way, as stated in the Vajra words of the Treasure Text: 'Having become accustomed in this way, there is no bardo (intermediate state). When the external breath ceases, at the moment when consciousness dissolves into space, one attains Buddhahood at the very first instant of awareness.' Thus it is said, so may all understand and practice it. This concise instruction on dream and clear light practice was written because my own student, who possesses the sacred bond, has completed three years of practice, uniting the three kayas (body, speech, and mind of a Buddha) of Yangnying Düpa (Essence of all Sugatas), and has properly received the outer, inner, and secret practices, repeatedly urged me, saying, 'The secret instructions can be read, but the oral instructions must be written down as they are.' Thus, I have recorded it to the best of my ability. Mi.smion Ga.na (མི་སྨྱོན་གཱ་ཎའི་,梵文,梵文罗马拟音,字面意思:Crazy Ga.na), preserving the original Treasure Text, embellished with the oral instructions of the Lama, spoke whatever came to mind during meditation sessions. The unequaled faithful disciple, the monk Chu.sol Tok.den, wrote it down. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
