Treasure of Rigdzin Chenpo Sangye Lingpa, Abridged Essence of the Offering Ritual for the Sixteen Arhats, Source of Benefit and Happiness. Khyentse Wangpo. Treasure of Rigdzin Chenpo Sangye Lingpa, Abridged Essence of the Offering Ritual for the Sixteen Arhats, Source of Benefit and Happiness, thus it abides. OM SWASTI. Part of the Great Compassion King's Teachings Collection, which the Great Treasure Dharma King Sangye Lingpa brought forth from the Lion-Faced Rock Nose on the path to Samye Chimphu. There are three aspects to practicing the ritual of the Sixteen Arhats: preparation, main practice, and conclusion. First, there are five aspects: excellent arrangement, refuge and bodhicitta, self-generation, and blessing the place and objects. Among these five, the first is the arrangement: The place should be secluded and agreeable, and well-cleaned. Above, arrange representations of the Three Jewels in general, and in particular, images or sculptures of the Sixteen Arhats with their retinue. In front of them, on a platform, in the center of a magnificent palace adorned with precious jewels, place the Sugata, the Sixteen Arhats, Dharmata, and the Four Great Kings on their respective seats, without confusing the deities' positions. In a medium-sized mandala, arrange images or sculptures of the main deities and their retinue. If that is not possible, arrange bouquets of flowers representing the seats of the deities in their respective positions, or if there are no representations, visualize them clearly in the sky. In any case, arrange the general offerings, with two waters in front, and in particular, incense, lamps, and food, as much as possible, such as a hundred. Nearby, in a convenient place, arrange white tormas, one each for the gurus and the Three Jewels in general, the Arhats, and the Dharma protectors Palgon. A white torma for the earth lords, cool food for the six realms, and changbu tormas for the obstructors, all arranged in a row. The practitioners should bathe and remain in cleanliness. If accomplished, take the Mahayana sojong. Sit well in a row, and gather all the necessary materials in front, such as musical instruments and scattering flowers. Second, taking refuge.
