There are four aspects to examining life: Showing the causes that diminish life, showing the signs of life diminishing, Showing the teacher who summons life, and showing the actual method of accomplishing life. There are four causes that diminish life: Disturbed mind, arising of intense hatred, Root vows of body, speech, and mind being broken, and unhappiness; these are all Transformed into the realm of life-stealing, breath-consuming obstructors. So it is said. There are four signs of life diminishing: Being angry with attendants, changing appearance, Acting perversely, and disliking food; these are all signs of diminishing life. Also, signs of life diminishing: Dreaming of the sun setting, the earth darkening, Unhappiness, anger, Difficulty falling asleep, bad dreams, Wandering alone, being naked, Being imprisoned and thrown into a pit, Dreaming of losing sheep and turquoise, Whichever of these occurs, it is a sign of diminishing life. There are three kinds of teachers who prolong life: Those who have mastered samadhi, those who possess all the qualities, Those who have great power and blessing and are close to the oath-bound ones, Those who have received the oral transmission and possess the essential instructions; if requested, they will surely summon life. The actual method of accomplishing life is shown: Remaining in meditative equipoise and making supplications, showing the nature of life, Summoning life, binding life, Reciting mantras and averting life obstacles, And bestowing and absorbing the empowerment of the life vase; there are seven in total. ...These are explained in the life accomplishment methods.
