The method of this instruction is: Prepare two cubit-long staffs of red sandalwood, adorned with dry skulls and vajra tops, insert dharani within, and attach red silk banners. One is to be the support for practice in the center of the mandala, and the other is to be placed in front of the practitioner for the purpose of activity. Also, arrange abundant offerings. This is the establishment of the support. Samaya! Then, the practice of recitation and accomplishment is as follows: The mantra practitioner seals the boundaries tightly, sits on a comfortable seat, takes refuge in the lama and the Three Jewels, and vows to practice the glorious Hayagriva for the benefit of all sentient beings. Bless the place and the offering substances, and visualize that all phenomena arise from the self-radiance of the self-aware, luminous, bodhicitta, the great emptiness. From this, arise the glorious Hayagriva, King of Power, with a body color of red-black, blazing like the fire of the end of time, with one face and two arms. The right hand raises a vajra skull-staff in the sky, striking the crowns of all arrogant gyalpo spirits and demons. The left hand points a threatening mudra at the heart, from the tip of which emanates a noose of wisdom fire, burning all unruly evil-doers without remainder. The mouth is open and the tongue is curled, the fangs are bared, the beard and eyebrows blaze fiercely, the three eyes glare with intense anger, fully endowed with a fierce and wrathful demeanor. The hair is red-yellow, radiating sparks of fire, standing upright, with a green horse head on the crown, a white neck, yellow mane, and a red tail, emitting a powerful horse neigh that shakes the sky.
