The Profound Path Essence: A Guide to the Five Stages of the Wrathful Heruka Gathering of Sugatas. Written by Tenzin Yungdrung Lingpa. The Profound Path Essence: A Guide to the Five Stages of the Wrathful Heruka Gathering of Sugatas. Written by Tenzin Yungdrung Lingpa. From the Wrathful Heruka Gathering of Sugatas: This is the treatise called "The Profound Path Essence: A Guide to the Five Stages." Oṃ sarva guru buddhāya namo nama mi. Hail to Heruka, the glorious primordial protector! Having paid homage to the mandala of the Gathering of All Sugatas, I will explain how to meditate on the essence of the nine profound stages of completion in a single session. The practice of the Gathering of Sugatas, the principal deity of the tantras of Mahāyoga, the yidam mandala that gathers all, is a guide that relies on the channels, winds, bindus, mind, and wisdom. The five stages of secret perfection, self-arising, sky-face, meaning-guide, etc., are only different in name, but their meaning is the same. Here, the great accomplished Tangtong Gyalpo directly heard the teachings from Guru Padmasambhava, and the near lineage bestowed by the fearless master, the great paṇḍita, the emanation of clear light Vajra, who possesses the seven transmissions. This third stage of the Wrathful Heruka Gathering of Sugatas, the practice of mind perfection, is the same in both word and meaning as the secret perfection of Chöwang Rinpoche. The blessings of the three lineages of the Eight Commands are gathered into one place, making this an unprecedented, wondrous, and extraordinary profound Dharma. Therefore, explaining this has three purposes: The preliminary, like spring plowing, is the guide to cutting through the clinging of the mind. The main part, like summer plowing, is the guide to arranging the auspicious connections of the path. The subsequent, like autumn harvesting, is the guide to the unobstructed expansion of the power of wisdom. In short. The first part is divided into two: common and uncommon. The first part is divided into five: inspiring the mind towards Dharma, the gateway of refuge and bodhicitta, purifying the continuum, accumulating merit, and invoking blessings. The first part is: From a qualified lama, having properly received the ripening and liberation of this and a practitioner who has not broken their vows, in a secluded place, straighten the body posture, expel the stale air, cut off the proliferation of thoughts, and think like this: Now I have obtained the rare and greatly beneficial leisure and fortune of a human body. I have met a lama, a virtuous friend. At the time of obtaining the profound and sacred Dharma

Alas! If we do not abandon laziness and procrastination and obtain a firm benefit from this precious human body, then, whether we examine the external seasons, the internal enemies, friends, birth, and death, or the secret of our own conceptual thoughts, every moment is impermanent and unstable, quickly decaying, and uncertain. Death is something that cannot be escaped no matter what. After death, neither the body, possessions, relatives, nor anything else will follow us. They will abandon us, and we will abandon them, and in some unknown place, only karma will follow us. If we are born in hell due to sinful and unwholesome actions, we will experience the suffering of heat and cold; if we are born as hungry ghosts, we will experience the suffering of hunger and thirst; if we are born as animals, we will experience the suffering of being exploited, etc. Just remembering these sufferings makes our hair stand on end. What will we do if we actually have to experience them? Moreover, there are the sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death, the battles between the asuras, the fall of the gods, the invisible changes, and the immeasurable suffering of conditioned existence. Therefore, we should understand that all places in samsara are like a pit of fire, a forest of razors, or a forest of swords, and we should generate a strong mind of renunciation. Second, the entrance gate is refuge and bodhicitta: The only ones who can truly protect us from the suffering of samsara are the precious Guru and Three Jewels. Therefore, we should think, "I will take refuge in them." In the sky in front of us, the root and lineage gurus, as well as the yidam mandala, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, heroes, dakinis, dharma protectors, and guardians, are present as if we can see them with our own eyes. With a single-pointed intention, I and all other sentient beings take refuge from now until we attain enlightenment. Namo! I take refuge with reverence from the bottom of my heart in the Guru, the root of blessings, the infallible Three Jewels, and the assembly of dakinis and dharma protectors. Remembering the qualities of the Three Jewels, we should take refuge with all our might from the depths of our hearts. Generating bodhicitta: Knowing that all suffering beings in samsara have been our kind mothers countless times, we greet them with the loving-kindness of wanting to give them happiness, and we support them with the compassion of wanting to free them from suffering. We vow to place them in the supreme benefit and happiness. And for this purpose, we enter into the practice of the great conduct of the Buddhas and their retinues, generating relative bodhicitta. We also recite the words: The six realms who have been my mothers
