Subduing the Maras: A Karma Mahaguru Practice Arranged for Recitation, The Garland of Wisdom Lightning. By Tenzin Yungdrung Lingpa. Subduing the Maras: A Karma Mahaguru Practice Arranged for Recitation, called The Garland of Wisdom Lightning. Namo Mahaguru Karma Krodhaya. (Tibetan: ན་མོ་མ་ཧཱ་གུ་རུ་ཀརྨ་ཀྲོ་དྷཱ་ཡ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नमो महागुरु कर्म क्रोधाय, Sanskrit Romanization: Namo mahāguru karma krodhāya, Literal Chinese Meaning: Homage to the Great Guru Karma Wrathful One) The all-pervading Guru's wisdom play of skill, From the five kayas' magical display pervading like space, With the activity of the wrathful vidyadhara's playful dance, I prostrate to the destruction of the armies of the three realms' four maras. In these degenerate times, the armies of maras, obstructors, and oath-breakers, The unequaled antidote that destroys them, From the profound terma of Dharma King Nyangpo, This is the treasure of the heart of mantra holders. Desiring to engage in the practice activity of Karma Mahaguru, the instruction on the practice to be undertaken is presented in two parts: the preliminary arrangement practice, and the actual activity sequence. The first is: In a suitable place, on a platform, in a vessel of iron or the like, on top of a black Dharma origin made of torma, arrange the forms of the four maras according to the terma text and practice, and erect a sengdeng stake adorned with a silk pennant. On top of that, on a low table, in an iron vessel or the like, place a torma cushion made of torma, three-faced and facing forward, on top of which place a three-faced black torma with mottled belly, flat and facing forward, adorned with peaceful and wrathful ornaments, with an image and silk umbrella. Behind and to the right, arrange three sets of three-tiered root offering tormas. Behind and to the left, the tormas for the terma protectors, the three: Mara, Tsen, and Naga. The mara torma is round and black, with the tip slightly bent. The tsen torma is three-faced and red. The naga torma is white, with a snake coiled around it. All three are encircled with a thumb. To the right and left of the practice torma, arrange medicine and alcohol. In front, arrange the five desirable objects, five rows fully arranged. The preliminary torma, tsok implements, etc., should also be gathered nearby. The second has three parts: preliminary, main part, and conclusion. The first has five parts. First, the seven-line prayer and the lineage supplication: Karma Heruka, destroyer of the mara armies, Prachen Hasti's feet, who accomplished the activity, The embodiment of the buddhas of the three times, Tötreng Tsal, I pray, may you utterly destroy the four maras!
