Explanation of Purpose. Explanation of Purpose. Third, regarding the purpose, there are three parts. The first part is: As mentioned before, what is the purpose of practicing with such a goal in mind? The second part is the root, divided into general meaning and branch meaning. The first part should be understood through the nature of the purpose, its classification, number, order determination, the difference between the goal and the purpose. First, based on what need does one enter the practice of a Bodhisattva? Second, it is the greatness of the supreme mind of all sentient beings, the greatness of abandonment, and the greatness of realization. "The noble one said, supreme is great." First, the greatness of mind, the Sutra says: "Subhuti, therefore, it is called a Bodhisattva Mahasattva because it makes the greatness of the aggregate of sentient beings and the greatness of the category of mind supreme." Among them, the greatness of the aggregate of sentient beings refers to the overall perspective of the five types of sentient beings, and the greatness of the category refers to the perspective of those who have entered the position of the noble and those who dwell in the position of the noble. Sentient beings who have perfected abandonment and realization are the supreme among those sentient beings, namely the perfectly complete Buddha. Vajra-like, immovable, great wave, and the mind of benefit and happiness are the cause of the greatness of mind, but not the essence. Second, the greatness of abandonment, the Sutra says: "Bhagavan, I abandon all views such as the view of self, and even the view of turning the wheel of Dharma, and in order to teach the Dharma to all sentient beings, I also teach the Dharma in a non-attached way, therefore it is called a Bodhisattva Mahasattva." Abandoning all unfavorable factors is the greatness of abandonment. Third, the greatness of realization, the Sutra says: "Bhagavan, the mind of Bodhi, the unequal mind and the equal mind, the mind that is not common to all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, the mind that is without leakage and does not belong to the three realms, for such a mind, also because of its self-nature emptiness, it is not attached, therefore it is listed as Mahabodhi." Here, the noble one said that inequality is the Buddha, and equality with it is the mind, etc., which is explained as the greatness of realization, and this is also through expression.

From the very beginning of its arising, explanations are given regarding the realizations encompassed by the three: application, vision, and meditation. In the "Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra," it says, "Bhagavan, the mind of Bodhi is the mind of knowing all aspects, the mind of unequaledness, the mind of non-equality and equality, the mind not shared by all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas." In the "Great Commentary," it says that the mind of Bodhi is the nature of aspiration and engagement, the mind of all-knowingness is included in the stage of adhimukti-charya (stage of aspirational conduct), the mind without outflows is included in the seven stages of application, the mind of unequaledness arises from the eighth stage and so forth as a result of maturation, and the mind of non-equality and equality belongs to the Buddha-ground, having abandoned all obscurations. Alternatively, the mind of Bodhi is the nature of the unborn, transformed into the essence of Bodhi. Similarly, in the conventional truth of yogis, it is related to mirror-like wisdom and so forth, and through some aspects of reversal, it is explained as the four types of all-knowing wisdom and so forth." Thus, great realization encompasses all realizations of the cause and effect stages. Third, the determination of number. In the "Great Commentary," it says, "Therefore, it should be understood that in order to go from non-victory to victory, in accordance with the Dharma, three purposes of a Bodhisattva are taught." The meaning is this: the purpose of a king engaging in battle to destroy the enemy's camp is determined to be three: destroying the enemy of disharmony, obtaining special benefits such as territory, and becoming the supreme one without rival. Only for these three things are three actions undertaken. Similarly, the purpose of a Bodhisattva engaging in practice is also to abandon all disharmonious sides, to realize all attainable qualities, and through possessing these two, to become the supreme one of all sentient beings. Because there are only these three, there are only three purposes. Fourth, the determination of order. Because the great mind is the chief of purposes, the great mind is taught first. And because it is obtained by abandoning all disharmonious sides, the great abandonment is taught below, and the realization
