Explanation of the Decisive Aspect Explanation of the Decisive Aspect Secondly, the nature of appropriate attention, the concordant aspect of decisive discrimination, has two meanings: general and specific. The first is the basis. Essence. The first of the three types of intelligence and analysis is: Whatever is the basis of the body and mind of the higher path is also the basis of the path of joining. Because the path of joining is the retinue of the path of seeing. Therefore, men and women of the three continents, including the desire realm gods, are the basis of the body, and the basis of the mind is the six dhyana grounds. Bodhisattvas, being skilled in means, can also rely on the desire realm mind. The ancients did not agree with the view that the Mahayana path of seeing relies solely on the fourth dhyana. Because the Bodhisattvas' Stream-enterer, Once-returner, and Non-returner rely on either the desire realm mind or the preliminary concentration of the first dhyana, because they have not attained the actual mind of dhyana. The second is the definition, classification, and the meaning of each of the three. The first is: The worldly meditation-born wisdom that is in accordance with and subsequent to the realization of the truth after the completion of the concordant aspect of liberation. The second is: The classification by state, with three types: small, medium, and large. The classification by essence, with four types: heat, etc. The third is: Generating the path of seeing, the one with an indefinite time of lifetimes is the small concordant aspect of decisive discrimination. The one with a definite time of lifetimes is the medium. The one that can be generated in this life is the large. The samadhi that obtains appearance becoming heat is: When meditating on the non-self-nature of phenomena, the samadhi and wisdom that initially obtain appearance on the non-self-nature of the apprehended object that is different from consciousness are in conjunction. As it is said, in the Ornament it says: When a Bodhisattva meditates, apart from the speech of the mind, all things are not fully seen. As it is said. The samadhi of increasing appearance becoming the peak is: In order to increase the appearance of the formless realm, effort is exerted, and the samadhi and wisdom that obtain a special appearance on the non-self-nature of the apprehended object are in conjunction. As it is said: In order to increase the appearance of phenomena, steady effort should be diligently exerted. As it is said. The samadhi of patience that enters one aspect of suchness is: Abiding in mind-only, formless

The samadhi with great clarity arising for the nature of reality, together with the union of samadhi and wisdom. As it is said: "After that, when all meanings appear, they will appear greatly in the mind. At that time, with that which is grasped, it will abandon all distractions." So it is. The supreme Dharma of uninterrupted samadhi is the samadhi with the union of wisdom, in which clarity is completely perfected on the absence of inherent nature of grasping after that. As it is said: "At that time, one quickly touches the uninterrupted samadhi. Thus, following after that, there is distraction of grasping." So it is. In these stages, having obtained the clarity arising from meditation on the nature of reality, it is called the Ground of Faith Practice because of the firmness of faith. Although the bodhisattva abiding on this ground is an ordinary being, he has truly transcended all the faults of children and possesses countless qualities such as samadhi, dharani, liberation, and clairvoyance. As stated in the Jewel Cloud Sutra, this refers to bodhisattvas with sharp faculties, and it is not definitive for all. Thirdly, the great translator said: "These aspects conforming to ascertainment arise from the power of the cause of meditation, and because the object, the nature of reality, has clear appearances, they are considered to be direct perception of yoga." This is unreasonable, because direct perception enters with an aspect that does not divide the object into parts, thus seeing the nature of reality directly, and it becomes the fault of being able to eliminate the obscurations to be abandoned by seeing, and of not being the Ground of Faith Practice. Furthermore, some say that this is conceptual with dualistic appearance, but it is free from the concept of grasping sound and meaning, because the object, the nature of reality, has clear appearances. If so, is this deluded with respect to its own object, the nature of reality, or is it not deluded? If it is the former, then it follows that it is not a consciousness led by the power of valid cognition in relation to that nature of reality, because it is a non-conceptual mistaken consciousness, like the consciousness of two moons. The cause of delusion in non-conceptual consciousness is the corruption of the self-cause sense faculties by external and internal conditions, and it is not possible to be produced by the power of valid cognition. If it is not produced by the power of valid cognition, then it is the path of directly realizing the truth from meditation.
