Neither are they, because those are emptiness of sequential cessation and expedient emptiness, so they cannot serve as antidotes to the two obscurations. What then is it? The nature of phenomena such as the eye itself does not abide in any extreme of elaboration such as permanence or impermanence, therefore it is merely labeled as emptiness. Such emptiness is the suchness of reality, because from understanding it without perversion, the two obscurations will be abandoned. For example, afflictions and discriminations arise from manifestly clinging to external and internal phenomena as real. When a yogi realizes that all phenomena are empty of their own nature from the beginning and do not abide in any extreme, then manifest clinging to reality ceases, so there is no opportunity for afflictions and discriminations to arise. Therefore, it is also said in the scriptures: From actions, afflictions, and discriminations, those elaborations arise from elaborations, emptiness will cause them to cease. And also in the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning: Having found any place, the cunning, venomous snake of affliction will seize the mind, but the mind that has no place will not be seized in that way. Thus it is said. Therefore, the emptiness of all phenomena being empty of their own nature is the antidote to all views, the path of all noble beings, the mind of all tathagatas, and the essence of the subject matter of all scriptures, which those who are good at adopting and abandoning should believe. If someone holds that emptiness, the ultimate truth, exists in reality, then their view is not suitable as an antidote to the two obscurations. For example, any antidote that destroys any object to be abandoned must have an opposing way of grasping the same object as that which is to be abandoned. For example, the certainty that sound is impermanent and the grasping of sound as permanent. Any view that holds that the ultimate exists apart from the conventional is neither aimed at the same object as the afflictions and discriminations that wrongly enter the aggregates, nor does it have an opposing way of grasping, because it aims at the difference between the two truths and is grasping the object as true.

Because it resembles clinging. Not only does it not act as an antidote to afflictions and conceptual thoughts, but it also increases their seeds. For example, afflictions such as desire are rooted in self-grasping. If someone clings to the existence of a truly existent self that is separate from the aggregates, then their self-grasping towards the aggregates will also increase day by day. For example, like the views of self held by the Samkhya and Vaisheshika schools. The view that the Tathagatagarbha, named the permanent self, truly exists in sentient beings is also of such a nature. Those who delight in elaboration will have their conceptual thoughts increase, just like children. Clinging to the Tathagatagarbha as pure, blissful, permanent, self, etc., is also delighting in elaboration. Therefore, the antidote that can uproot all extreme views is the view that realizes all phenomena are empty of inherent existence. They revile this view with various names, while praising the clinging that increases the seeds of afflictions and conceptual thoughts, which are the cause of samsara and the lower realms, from many aspects. They not only ruin themselves but also cause others to be ruined by establishing them in this view. Therefore, those who desire liberation should discard those unwholesome spiritual friends like ashes in the dust, throwing them far away. Among them, external emptiness is: Because its nature is such, form is empty of form. Sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena are also the same. Form and so on, being without inherent existence, are considered external emptiness. The six external sense bases, such as form, are called external phenomena. That which is empty of its own essence in the manner described earlier is called external emptiness. Both are without inherent existence, that is external and internal emptiness. The birthplaces of both external and internal sense bases are without inherent existence, that is external and internal emptiness. Others consider the body of the sovereign to be the inner of the continuum and the outer of the sense bases, therefore it is considered the basis of external and internal emptiness. Dharma
