The showing of conventional arising as dependent origination. The showing of conventional arising as dependent origination. Third, the showing of conventional arising as dependent origination, divided into two: the main point and the benefits of dependent origination. First, the main point: If you refute arising from the four extremes, then how is it certain that consciousness arises conventionally from ignorance and action, and sprouts etc. arise from seeds etc.? To this it is said: Since there is no cause and no lord, cause etc. and both self and other, things do not arise, therefore they arise dependently. Because, as explained before, things, internal and external, do not arise in either of the two truths from no cause, a lord, particles, nature, a person, the son of a barren woman, etc., and from self, other, or both. Therefore, in order not to cut off worldly conventions, one should rely on causes and conditions that appear, such as seeds, so that these fruits, such as sprouts, will arise well. Therefore, it is also said in the sutra: There, the indication of the Dharma is this: This being, that arises; this arising, that arises; that is, with ignorance as the condition, there are actions, and so on. And: This being, this arises, for example, when there is long, there is short. This arising, this arises, for example, when a lamp arises, light arises. It is also said in the treatise: The agent depends on the action, and the action depends on the agent. Apart from arising dependently, the cause of accomplishment is not seen. Likewise, the proximate cause should be known, in order to eliminate action and agent. By the agent and the actions, the remaining things should be known. Thus, dependent origination is taught as merely this condition. Among these, the term "merely this condition" means that whatever dharma is known in the world as the cause of a certain result, that is its cause. This shows that it is free from invisible lords, nature, particles, persons, the ālaya-vijñāna, etc., and other causes that are fabricated by others. Therefore, the Madhyamikas consider dependent origination to be merely this condition
