In short, it is to prevent children from having a wrong understanding of the relationship between cause and effect. The point here should be understood as follows: the Madhyamikas do not completely deny all causal relationships, because that would violate their own position. So, what do they do? They merely eliminate the misconceptions of others who argue that the causal relationship is not valid. If there is actually no causal relationship at all, then how can one refute the slander of cause and effect by others? In fact, the causal relationship is without self-nature, but when those children who do not understand this lightly slander cause and effect, they will make inverted mistakes in accepting and rejecting good and evil, and thus fall into the great abyss of the three lower realms. Therefore, what the holy ones have to do is only to refute the wrong understanding of the causal relationship by others. Since the Madhyamikas, like nihilists, have not seen any causal relationship, how can they not misunderstand cause and effect and make inverted mistakes in acceptance and rejection? Just as when a person steals something, some people see it as it is and say, "This person stole something," while others, because they are not on good terms with him, deliberately pretend not to see it and also say, "This person stole something." Although both equally point out the act of stealing, the former is stating the truth as it is, so it is not lying; while the latter is pretending to have seen it without seeing the fact, so it is lying. Similarly, the Madhyamikas, through correct reasoning, determine that all dharmas are without self-nature, and thus say that cause and effect are without self-nature; how can this be compared to the nihilists who are attached to the phenomena they see, but slander the cause and effect they have not seen? The Madhyamikas do not refrain from accepting and rejecting good and evil like the nihilists. Just as the cognition of an image arises from a self-natureless image, from the Madhyamika point of view, there is no contradiction in the fact that agreeable and disagreeable results arise from self-natureless good and evil deeds. Like a magician acting on an illusion, they have no attachment whatsoever.

In order to make (the mind) engage in taking and abandoning without inversion. If someone were to accept the ālaya-vijñāna or the person, etc., as the basis of the relationship of karma and result, then perhaps they could refute the argument of the nihilists that the relationship of karma and result does not exist. However, for those who assert the absence of inherent existence, how can they refute the arguments of the nihilists since there is no basis for the relationship of karma and result? Answer: The Madhyamikas do not accept the ālaya-vijñāna, etc., in order to avoid the fault of the non-existence of the relationship of karma and result, because they would be touched by other faults. Even if they do not accept these, it is not impossible to refute the arguments of the nihilists. Like this, the argument of the nihilists that the relationship of karma and result is unreasonable is limited to this: If karma ceases, then the karma that has been done will be wasted, and one will encounter what has not been done; if it does not cease, then since that karma is permanent, it will not produce a result, or it will never not produce a result. If some karma has birth, then it will inevitably cease, and when it ceases, there will also be the fault of the karma that has been done being wasted. However, karma does not have even a little birth, because birth from self, other, both, and without cause is prohibited and obstructed. Since it is not born, it will not cease, because cessation is preceded by birth. For example, just as the son of a barren woman does not die because he is not born. Since it does not cease, the result will not be wasted, because it is not contradictory for the result to arise from karma that has not ceased. Karma may not cease because it is not born, but how does the result arise from karma that is not born? Even if karma does not produce a result, you have established our tenet that the relationship of karma and result does not exist. Answer: It is seen that results also arise from phenomena that do not inherently arise, for example, in the image in water and a very clear mirror, it is seen that the consciousness that appears there arises. If that consciousness arises from the form of the mirror, and not from the image, then, since the two appear equally in consciousness, how do you know the difference that one is the cause and the other is not? If the form is real,
